POSITION SUMMARY:
Utilizing the nursing process and specific specialty knowledge and expertise, provides high quality Nursing care for patients in a variety of Outpatient locations. Implements physician and /or advanced practice nurse orders for assigned patients in compliance with Patient Services Department policy and other regulatory agency requirements. Encourages family involvement in process ensuring continuity of care. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and educational experiences in support of departmental and divisional nursing philosophy and objectives, as well as, Health System initiatives.
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
Minimum:
Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing Program
Preferred:
Formal training in specialty area
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
Minimum:
- Current RN licensure from the State of Illinois
- BI-annual CPR certification

1 year of clinical experience in Medical/Surgical Nursing

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

Successful completion of annual clinical, age and job specific competencies and skill verification tools required.
•
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing in a caring, considerate and concerned manner.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
•
Assists in managing specialty care for assigned patients in Outpatient area. Observes, records and reports changes in patient status to the Referring Physician, Advanced Practice Nurse and/or clinic RN.
•
Demonstrates critical thinking skills and exercises nursing judgement in evaluating and initiating emergency measures in emergent situations.
•
As directed, answers incoming department telephone calls, providing appropriate instructions to patients as families, maintaining confidentiality of position acquired information.
•
Coordinates services with the interdisciplinary team across the continuum of care, ensuring continuity and efficiency of specialty care and service for specific patients.
•
Directs, guides and evaluates new clinic staff as needed. Assist with department teaching, provides supervision to students during routine patient care activities and develops or delivers skills class presentations as assigned.
•
Schedules patient appointments, provides follow-up care and helps with supply management efforts as needed to assists in facilitating efficient clinic functioning.
•
Performs all aspects of care in an environment that optimizes patient and environmental safety and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and compliance efforts.
