About the role
DroneShield is expanding its footprint in Europe with the establishment of a new regional office in Amsterdam and a logistics hub in Rotterdam. As part of this strategic growth, we are seeking a Field Service Engineer (FSE) to join our European Operations Team.
This dual-role position will be based in Amsterdam and will play a key part in delivering on-site customer support across Europe while also providing quality assurance oversight for demo and evaluation equipment processed through the Rotterdam logistics hub.
The FSE will report to the European Operations Manager, based in the Netherlands, and will be supported by the broader Australian-based Operations and Engineering teams. The role will involve regular travel (up to 50% of the time) to customer sites across the region, as well as weekly visits to the Rotterdam facility to perform quality inspections and support outbound equipment readiness.
Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations
- Collaborate with the sales team providing support in customer technical engagement, reviewing system architectures and quotations for technical accuracy
- Serve as a primary customer interface for accounts from ordering through to installation, maintenance, and ongoing support
- Plan and manage installations of complex systems of multiple products
- Engage with customers to receive and document technical feedback
- Support new product development projects by serving as the “voice of the customer” to the engineering team
- Perform “end-user” validation testing of new products and software releases
- Provide remote and on-the-ground technical support to customers
- Conduct engineering investigation and analysis to resolve technical issues with limited support
- Develop and maintain documentation of DroneShield systems and processes to ensure continual improvements over time
- Establish and maintain close relationships with internal and external stakeholders and customers. Develop strong, reliable channels of communication with end customers from a range of technical and cultural backgrounds
Field Service Engineering
- Collaborate with the EU Sales Team and AUS Delivery teams to support customer technical engagement, system architecture reviews, and solution deployment.
- Plan, manage, and execute the installation and integration of multi-product systems in the field.
- Serve as a primary customer interface for technical support, diagnostics, software upgrades, and equipment servicing.
- Perform validation testing of new hardware and software releases, reporting results to engineering.
- Develop and deliver basic operator and maintenance training for end-users.
- Document and escalate field feedback to the relevant technical teams.
Quality Assurance (Rotterdam Support)
- Conduct Incoming Quality Control (IQC) on demonstration and trial equipment received at the EU logistics hub.
- Perform Outgoing Quality Control (OQC) to ensure equipment is operational, complete, and correctly configured before dispatch to customer demos.
- Flag and document any non-conformances and coordinate with the QA and engineering teams in Sydney to resolve.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, asset conditions, and movement logs for all demo inventory.
- Support the AUS Logistics Coordinator with basic technical checks as part of inventory receipt and dispatch processes.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
- Degree or equivalent in Electronics, Systems, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline.
- Previous experience in a Field Service or Systems Technician role with customer-facing responsibilities.
- Proficient in networking systems and Linux-based environments.
- Experience with RF systems, telecommunications, or Defence systems is highly regarded.
- Exposure to or understanding of QA practices including IQC/OQC workflows is desirable.
- Highly organised, capable of managing dual responsibilities across two locations.
- Ability to work independently and travel throughout the EU region (travel up to 50%).
- Fluency in English (Dutch or additional EU languages a plus).
- Defence security clearance is advantageous but not essential.
