Position Summary:
The Specialty Pharmacy Technician serves as an integral part of the healthcare team at Conway Medical Center and will work with both the specialty pharmacy team and within CMC outpatient clinics to establish strong, credible relationships with patients, clinicians, and internal pharmacy staff to help provide high level, specialized prescriptive care to patients beyond the scope of routine pharmacy practice in a timely and professional manner.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Completion of an accredited certified pharmacy technician training program.
Experience
- One year of previous pharmacy technician experience required.
Licensure/Certification/Registration
- State Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) registration required.
- Completed and passed the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam required.
- Completed 1000 hours practical experience.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work effectively and collaboratively with patients, other pharmacy staff, outpatient healthcare workers, and third party payors.
- Exemplify excellence in customer and client communication and service standards.
- Demonstrates proficiency with computer software and equipment including but not limited to prescription processing applications, data entry, EMR documentation, third party billing applications, and email.
- Accurately input new referrals and update pertinent patient information in designated computer systems as appropriate.
- Contact patients to discuss scope of service for CMC Specialty Pharmacy and collect information necessary to establish and maintain pharmacy profiles completely and accurately.
- Obtain and properly bill third party payors and complete any prior authorizations required prior to dispensing medication.
- Address insurance issues that require alternate funding and work as a liaison between clinical staff and patient assistance personnel to register patient with manufacturer reimbursement programs if needed.
- Discuss financial obligations with patients and assist in copay collection.
- Gather medications and supplies, labels, and have shipments verified for correctness by the specialty pharmacist.
- Arrange accurate shipping and delivery of medication.
- Reviews and schedules future refills to ensure patient compliance.
- Complete tasks in compliance with URAC/ACHC accreditation standards and policies for CMC Specialty Pharmacy.
- Actively participates in quality improvement measures.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
