Procon Consulting, a fast-growing professional services firm in McLean, VA with expertise in construction management (CM), construction-related technology, space planning, and facilities management, seeks a licensed Fire Protection Engineer for various Federal projects in a long term role. The ideal candidate would be able to obtain a federal clearance (HSPD-12 minimum) and at least 5 years of experience in a Fire Protection Engineering role or similar position. This role requires various skills and experience as listed below. This candidate must be within close proximity to a airport or major metropolitan area. This role will require up to 50% travel or more. The ideal candidate will possess the following:
Qualifications and Skills
- Ability to work and travel throughout the continental US.
- 5 years of experience in fire protection and life safety systems is required.
- Experience with national fire protection codes.
- Fire Protection bachelor's degree.
- Fire Protection PE license.
- System design (does not include modeling) AND field work experience performing fire protection and life safety surveys, or similar.
- Fieldwork experience in buildings doing surveys and ensuring issues in earlier surveys have been corrected.
- Applicants must have the desire and ability to learn about life safety and fire protection systems, maximizing performance, and must be up to the challenge of leading a team of owners, designers, and contractors to find and fix issues from the beginning of design through construction.
- Willing and ability to travel up to 50%.
- NICET or NFPA certifications.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Perform technical reviews of building and development plans and specifications for compliance with Life Safety Code and adopted National Fire Protection Association systems/standards.
- Check sprinkler plans and hydraulic calculations.
- Ensure compliance with gaseous fire suppression systems, fire alarm systems, smoke control and related requirements.
- Conduct construction and highly technical fire and life safety-related field inspections.
- Maintain records and files; prepare reports.
- Respond to inquiries from the public regarding fire prevention practices.
- Oversee/lead the work of other fire protection staff in the absence of the Fire Marshall.
Travel expenses will be paid. Salary is based on experience.
