Job Summary
Assist with the provision of patient care. Provides necessary support in the Physician Associates of Northern New Jersey.
Essential Functions
- Perform assigned clerical duties including but not limited to registration, scheduling, answering phones, chart preparation and patient appointments
- Facilitates the provision of care to patients by accurately documenting clinical information
- Perform following duties according to EOGH, including but not limited to obtain physical measurements which includes heights, weights, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiratory rate and all documented according to department standards. Reports abnormal results to the provider
- Perform basic laboratory tests on the premises withing POCT standards, maintains refrigerator and QC logs
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens according to health system standards.
- Assists with patient transfer and undressing.
- Organize patient care area based upon patient needs and priorities as identified by the department.
- Assists physicians with procedures.
- Demonstrates competence in all performance of: assisting with application and removal of casts; CPR, application of dressings, splints, and orthopedic devices and venipuncture.
- Clean and sterilizes medical instruments using health system standards
- Utilize infection prevention and control procedures according to health system policy
- Stock patient exam rooms
- Orders supplies as needed and restock supply areas
- Maintain patient areas while assuring compliance standards set forth by regulatory agencies
- Manage supplies and equipment un a fiscally responsible manner
- Schedule ancillary test for patients if requested by physician and provide patients with ancillary services information such as telephone number and address.
- Recognizes and respects cultural diversity while being sensitive to the individual’s ability to communicate
- Maintains open communication with the provider regarding patient care matters.
- Prioritizes and performs multiple tasks
- Floats to other areas as needed
Computer Skills:
- Demonstrates health care informatics competency in order to manage patient care, outcome data and current and emerging health care technology, which includes:
- Basic computer competency, including the effective use of patient care devices, computers, computer software programs such as e-mail and word processing programs.
- Information literacy, including the effective use of electronic resources for patient care
- Information management skills, including the effective use of the electronic health record and clinical information systems

Working Conditions
Requires full range of motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Requires standing and walking for extended periods. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
Physical Requirements:
Job requires frequent standing and walking. Lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 40 pounds occurs with varied frequency
Minimum Education/Certifications
High School Diploma or equivalent
Medical Assistant Certification
BLS certification by American Heart Association (AHA).
Minimum Work Experience
Minimum of one-year experience in health care environment
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Must be willing to work holidays, weekends and provide additional coverage as needed
