Job Summary
Performs selected patient care activities. The Mental Health Aide is a member of multidisciplinary treatment team and provides support for the patient’s therapeutic treatment plan.
Essential Functions
- Assists assigned patient with activities of daily living.
- Provides and documents 15 minutes checks as assigned.
- Provides 1:1 observation in a safe an effective manner.
- Accurately takes and records vital signs as well as weight and height when needed.
- Observes patient progress and reports status to staff nurse.
- Ensures that all assigned patients are wearing an identification band.
- Helps maintain unit cleanliness and neatness for patient comfort.
- Ensures facility is safe and reports deficiencies to the nurse.
- Checks for and reports malfunctioning or damaged equipment, destruction of property or signs of contraband.
- Demonstrates the ability to follow the infection control policies of the hospital.
- Demonstrates an awareness of the treatment goals and objectives of assigned patients.
- Able to provide support for the patient’s therapeutic treatment plan.
- Seeks direction from the charge nurse as needed to provide optimum care for assigned patients.
- Demonstrates therapeutic skills when communicating with patients and families.
- Demonstrates ability to communicate with other team members in a way that promotes a positive and cooperative work environment.
- Demonstrates knowledge of work practice and emergency procedures
- Assumes responsibility for ongoing training and development by attending in-service programs, and staff meetings.
- Demonstrates an ability to support patient education done by the professional staff
- Demonstrates knowledge of the warning signs of aggressive behavior as outlined to secure training.
- Demonstrates an ability to use skills taught in secure training.

Minimum Education/Certifications
High school diploma
Certifications required: BLS-CPR
EKG, Phlebotomy Certificate
Minimum Work Experience
1 year or more experience in Behavioral Health preferred.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Must be willing to work holidays, weekends and provide additional coverage as needed.
