Job Summary:
As the Safety/Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, plans, implements, coordinates, and assesses hospital accident, fire prevention, and occupational safety and health programs. Develops and recommends new procedures and approaches to safety based on reports of incidents, accidents, and other data gathered from hospital personnel. In collaboration with, and with recommendations and approvals from the Emergency, EOC and Safety Committee, develop, initiate, maintain, and revise policies and procedures for Emergency Operation Manuals. Responsible for planning, implementing and monitoring of the Hospital’s emergency preparedness program and to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Responsible for these elements at Highland Community Hospital, Jefferson Davis Community Hospital, Marion General Hospital, Perry County General Hospital, Pearl River County Hospital and Walthall General Hospital.
Performance Expectations:
- Develops, initiates, maintains, and revises policies and procedures for Emergency Operations Manuals.
- Ensures Environment of Care rounding is completed and collaborates with other departments to direct environment of care issues to appropriate existing channels for investigation and resolution.
- Identifies potential areas of hazard vulnerability and risk; develops/implements corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues, and provides general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future.
- Assists department heads and administrators in enforcing safety regulations and codes.
- Measures and evaluates effectiveness of safety program, using established goals.
- Develops and reviews safety training for hospital staff as needed.
- Maintains administrative control of records related to safety programs.
- Prepares and disseminates memos and reports.
- To increase safety awareness at all levels within the organization.
- To respond to employees’ safety concerns.
- To respond to fires and other emergencies on or about the property.
- Assist in developing scenarios and participates in the conduct of emergency drills and exercises.
- Utilizes expertise in applicable regulations, standards, guidelines, practices, and procedures to provide critical review of Emergency Planning activities and programs.
- Develops internal programs to assure regulatory compliance and program effectiveness.
- To liaise with municipal and State Emergency planners, update plans, organize exercises and evaluate procedures.
- To coordinate the selection and distribution of emergency communications equipment.
- To assist administrators, supervisors and staff in emergency preparedness.
- To coordinate emergency procedures and act as emergency on-site coordinator as needed.
- Facilitate regular meeting of the Safety Committee.
- To assume other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills:
High School Diploma or GED required.
Work Experience:
Two to three years’ experience in hospital safety and emergency preparedness preferred. Understanding of applicable federal, state, local and hospital regulations preferred. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to recognize onsite risk factors and take appropriate action. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to work independently and as part of team.
