DEFINITION OF POSITION

The Surgical First Assistant provided to aid in exposure, hemostats, closure, and other intraoperative functions that help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. In addition to Intraoperative duties, the surgical assistance also performs preoperative and postoperative duties to better facilitate proper patient care. All Surgical First Assistants shall be credentialed through the Medical Staffing office.

QUALIFICATIONS

Professional

Graduate from an accredited Surgical Assisting program accredited by CAAHEP through ARC-STSA or through another educational institution accredited and recognized by the US Department of Education and Joint Commission.

Must have and maintain certification.

Current AHA BLS certification required.
