Position Summary
Under general supervision, completes all hospital registration, Inpatient Admissions, Pre-Admissions, Emergency Room and Outpatient diagnostic testing and treatment areas. Establishes insurance criteria and obtains patients’ pertinent socioeconomic information; enters data into the on-line Information System. Completes insurance and billing forms. Collects patient payment for medical services, treatments, and supplies provided by the hospital; follows all managed care guidelines.
Job Responsibilities
- Ability to prioritize and complete registration in all registration areas in an accurate and timely manner.
- Ensures each patient is assigned only one Medical Record number.
- Selects appropriate Patient Class, based on the department and service required.
- Obtains and inputs complete and accurate patient demographic information, including verification of existing information of both home and employment
- Enters accurate accident information.
- Ensures all patients are registered in a timely manner, prioritizing registrations during periods of high volume.
- Ensures speed and accuracy when placing orders for Ancillary testing.
- Obtains authorization or pre-certification per policy guidelines.
- Schedule HOD appointments, as needed, for specific departments.
- Walk patients to the appropriate locations and/or push patients in wheelchairs.
- In the ED and Admitting areas: push the computer on wheels to patient rooms to complete the registration process.
Education/Experience
●High School graduate or equivalent. Typing 35 wpm with computer knowledge and PC keyboarding skills required.
● Medical Terminology preferred with health insurance knowledge including experience with Medicare/Medicaid and Managed Care requirements.
● Previous hospital, healthcare related experience preferred.
● Must demonstrate ability in communication and problem solving. Strong customer service skills required.
