About The Role
As an Overnight Cashier at SunStop Urban Market, you will be the frontline representative of our store during late-night hours, ensuring every guest receives fast, friendly, and accurate service. In this hourly, full-time position, you will handle cash and other payment transactions, maintain a clean and safe environment, and support overall store operations while most of the city sleeps. This role includes a $1,000 sign-on bonus and a night shift differential of $1.50 per hour, reflecting the importance of your contribution to our overnight team. You will work closely with other team members and store leadership, using your strong attention to detail, customer service skills, and money-handling experience to keep our customers satisfied and our store running smoothly.
What You'll Do
- Provide friendly, efficient, and professional customer service to all guests throughout the overnight shift.
- Operate the cash register and point-of-sale (POS) system to accurately process cash, credit, and other forms of payment.
- Follow all cash-handling procedures, including opening, balancing, and closing tills at the beginning and end of shifts.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked checkout area, including counters, displays, and impulse items.
- Assist with stocking shelves, coolers, and displays, rotating products and checking for accurate pricing and labeling.
- Monitor the sales floor and store entrance, helping to ensure a safe, secure environment for customers and team members overnight.
- Follow store policies and procedures related to age-restricted sales (such as alcohol, tobacco, or lottery, as applicable by location).
- Respond promptly and courteously to customer questions, concerns, and complaints, escalating issues to supervisors when necessary.
- Perform light cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, trash removal, and restroom checks to maintain store cleanliness standards.
- Work collaboratively with other overnight staff and supervisors to complete shift tasks and prepare the store for the morning rush.
- Adhere to all company policies, safety guidelines, and loss-prevention procedures during every shift.
- Arrive on time, ready to work consistent overnight hours, and reliably complete all assigned duties.
Qualifications
- Fluency in English, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with customers and team members.
- At least 2 years of experience as a cashier, preferably in a retail, grocery, or convenience store environment.
- Previous overnight or late-shift work experience, with demonstrated ability to stay attentive and productive during night hours.
- Proven customer service skills, with a friendly, patient, and helpful attitude.
- Strong money-handling skills with a track record of accuracy in processing cash and electronic payments.
- High attention to detail, including accurately ringing up items, giving correct change, and following procedures.
- Reliable transportation to and from work to support consistent attendance for overnight shifts.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and carry items (such as cases of product) as needed, and perform light cleaning tasks.
- Comfort using or learning point-of-sale (POS) systems and following written and verbal instructions.
- Willingness to work a flexible overnight schedule, including weekends and holidays as needed.
