POSITION SUMMARY: The Sterile Processing Technician II is responsible for the duties noted in the Sterile Processing Technician I and extensive knowledge regarding the processes used for the decontamination, inspection, cleaning, assembling and packaging of surgical instruments. Work with Operating Room personnel to ensure specialty trays and instruments are handled in the appropriate manner. The Technician II can dissemble, clean, assemble and test specialty surgical instrumentation for proper functioning. Possesses the ability to differentiate between single-use items and reusable items. Assists with teaching of new hires and function as a resource person for the other staff. Will be able to function independently on call in the Operating Room Decontamination Room.
EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, TRAINING and EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Required: High school graduate or equivalent. 2 years experience with knowledge of central sterile processes. CSPDT certification.
Preferred: Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program or Sterile Processing Program.
ADDITIONAL SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
Basic computer knowledge. A working knowledge of medical terminology. Extensive knowledge regarding processes of decontamination, inspection,
cleaning, assembling and packaging and surgical instrumentation.
