JOB SUMMARY: The Education and Vocation Coordinator is responsible for providing leadership, supervision, and operational oversight of the educational and vocational components of the YouthBuild program. The position works in partnership with program leadership and collaborates across program teams to ensure high-quality service delivery, compliance with federal, state, and organizational requirements for the achievement of performance outcomes and participant success. As a supervisor, this role supports staff development and fosters a collaborative team environment while cultivating strategic partnerships that expand career pathways and apprenticeship opportunities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinate and oversee the implementation of healthcare, construction, GED, Foundational Skills, leadership readiness, and vocational training activities.Provide day-to-day leadership, supervision, coaching, mentoring, and performance management for assigned staff, promoting professional development, accountability, collaboration, and excellence in service delivery.Coordinate participant recruitment support, eligibility determination, onboarding, orientation, and Challenge Week activities.Monitor participant attendance, academic progress, credential attainment, supportive services, hands-on learning, and employment outcomes.Ensure program objectives, contractual deliverables, and performance outcomes are achieved.Foster collaboration across educational, vocational, career coaching, recruitment, and workforce development functions to ensure coordinated service delivery, participant success, and achievement of program goals.Conduct routine quality assurance reviews of participant files, case notes, attendance, assessments, credentials, and supportive service documentation.Ensure compliance with USDOL, MDE, WIOA, YouthBuild, and SER Metro-Detroit policies and procedures.Develop and implement corrective action plans to address compliance deficiencies and performance concerns.Collect, analyze, and monitor program data to support continuous improvement and data-driven decision making.Prepare and submit accurate reports and maintain complete documentation within required timelines.Develop, cultivate, and manage strategic relationships with registered apprenticeship programs, labor unions, employers, community colleges, training providers, and workforce agencies to expand career pathway opportunities and increase participant placement into apprenticeships, post-secondary education, and employment.Coordinate externships, clinical placements, worksite visits, and job shadowing opportunities.Plan, coordinate, and oversee service-learning and community service projects by developing partnerships with community organizations, managing project logistics, supervising participant engagement, documenting outcomes, and ensuring projects support leadership development, workforce readiness, and YouthBuild program goals.Serve as the primary liaison with YouthBuild partners and community stakeholders.Facilitate cross-functional meetings and coordinate services with education, workforce, compliance, case management, and supportive service teams.Implement, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and operational workflows.Monitor staff productivity, assign priorities, and ensure timely completion of assignments.Identify operational risks and recommend process improvements to strengthen program quality and participant outcomes.Represent SER Metro-Detroit at community meetings, employer events, and workforce development initiatives.Supports executive leadership through performance analysis, operational reporting, continuous improvement initiatives, and other assigned duties.Must be self-directed, organized, and possess the ability to work within a complex blended program model and team setting.Stay current in pedagogy and andragogy approaches that meet the learning styles of the population being served.Addresses behavioral issues as they arise.Attend community meetings, departmental and cross-functional case conferences.Participate and facilitate youth related activities.Remain current on best practices, grant requirements, and professional standards related to alternative education and workforce development.Provides positive leadership and direction for youth program participants.Contributes to the team effort by performing other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education, education administration, or a related field is required. (Teacher certification and experience in vocational or Career Technical Education are necessary.)Ability to work in an enthusiastic and encouraging way with young people facing barriers.Experience in creative curriculum planning and development is preferred.Commitment to the goals and objectives of the program and to the mission of SER Metro-Detroit and SER YouthBuild Learning Academy.Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of low-income students, understanding cross-cultural values regarding education, and the ability to establish rapport with the target population.Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with staff, employers, educational partners, community organizations, and funders.A high degree of initiative and the ability to work without constant supervision are required. Must have experience working in team settings, collaborate effectively with others, function well under pressure, manage multiple tasks concurrently, and always remain professional.Mental ability to handle pressures related to multiple individuals from diverse backgrounds and varying levels of need.Must be able to plan program activities and services, manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and meet tight program deadlines.Bilingual language skills in English/Spanish or English/Arabic preferred but not required.Computer skills necessary to effectively maintain a database and generate reports.Regular punctual attendance, including evenings and weekends, is required.Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan Chauffeur Driver’s license to operate a 15-passenger van for occasional, required participant transportation and agency-related activitiesIncumbent must also have reliable means of transportation to travel to various locations outside of the office.Must successfully complete FBI fingerprinting and receive a satisfactory criminal background check as a condition of employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit for extended periods of time, and have sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate a phone, computer keyboard, and other office equipment. Must be able to lift a minimum of 10 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. - This job operates in a normal school environment with a noise level, which is at times, moderately loud with little discomfort due to noise, dirt, dust and the like. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
