About Integrity PSC
At Integrity PSC, we do more than support utilities. We help keep the lights on. Our team partners with electric utilities across the country to strengthen the infrastructure that powers communities, businesses, and everyday life.
We bring together experienced field professionals, technical expertise, and a commitment to doing things the right way, safely, reliably, and with integrity. Whether working in substations, on transmission lines, or supporting critical operations, our people are trusted to step in, solve problems, and deliver results where it matters most.
This is work that directly impacts the reliability of the grid and the communities that depend on it. At Integrity PSC, you are part of a team that takes pride in doing essential work and doing it well.
The Substation Electrical Designer supports the design and development of outdoor electrical substations ranging from distribution through transmission voltages, working closely with engineers, steel designers, vendors, fabricators, and customers to produce complete physical substation layouts, parameter driven 3D models, construction drawings, bills of material (BOMs), and other project deliverables. This role leverages advanced 3D modeling, parametric design, and assembly management techniques to ensure compliance with customer requirements, engineering standards, and industry codes, while improving design consistency, maintaining critical clearances, optimizing constructability, and enhancing overall project execution.
Essential Responsibilities
Substation Design & Layout
- Develop physical layouts for substations including equipment placement, buswork, conduit, grounding, fencing, structures, foundations, and associated electrical infrastructure.
- Review project specifications, customer drawings, one-lines, calculations, vendor documentation, and Job Material Lists (JMLs).
- Verify material requirements and identify discrepancies between quoted and project materials.
- Perform equipment placement studies, clearance evaluations, and constructability reviews.
- Coordinate layouts across multiple voltage classes including distribution, sub-transmission, and transmission substations.
- Review equipment foundations, anchor bolt layouts, and structure requirements against engineering calculations.
- Identify design conflicts, clearance concerns, and constructability issues and communicate recommendations to project engineers.
- Participate in project kickoff meetings and contribute design improvements and risk mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with customer standards, utility requirements, IEEE, NESC, ANSI, OSHA, and applicable industry standards.
3D Modeling & Parametric Design
- Create and maintain detailed 3D models using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.
- Develop equipment footprints, pad layouts, assemblies, sub-assemblies, and complete substation yard models.
- Utilize parametric modeling techniques to control equipment spacing, electrical clearances, conductor routing, bus alignment, and layout standards.
- Develop and maintain parameter-driven assemblies, templates, and reusable design components to improve consistency and efficiency across projects.
- Apply assembly constraints, reference geometry, and skeleton modeling techniques to ensure model integrity and constructability.
- Create bay assemblies, island assemblies, field assemblies, and complete yard layouts.
- Troubleshoot modeling conflicts, broken constraints, and design changes while maintaining model accuracy.
- Validate equipment models against vendor cut sheets, specifications, and project requirements.
- Generate Bills of Material (BOMs), material takeoffs, and weight calculations from 3D models.
Drawing Production
- Produce construction drawing packages including:
- General Arrangements (GA)
- Site Layouts
- Equipment Plans
- Sections and Elevations
- Equipment Details
- Buswork Layouts
- Grounding Plans
- Conduit and Raceway Layouts
- Bills of Material
- Ensure drawings are accurate, constructible, and clearly communicate design intent.
- Verify dimensions, clearances, elevations, and field installation requirements.
- Create drawing packages that support fabrication, procurement, construction, and field installation activities.
- Maintain consistency between 3D models, drawings, BOMs, and project documentation.
Data Management & Document Control
- Maintain project files within Autodesk Vault or similar engineering document management systems.
- Follow revision control procedures, file naming standards, and document management best practices.
- Manage check-in/check-out processes and maintain model integrity across project teams.
- Support copy design processes and reusable design standards.
- Coordinate deliverables with engineering, purchasing, fabrication, construction, and project management teams.
Collaboration & Communication
- Coordinate with engineers, fabricators, vendors, customers, and construction personnel throughout project execution.
- Communicate design concerns, constructability issues, and technical recommendations.
- Support construction activities through drawing clarifications, field questions, and RFI responses.
- Participate in design reviews and interdisciplinary coordination meetings.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of drafting, modeling, and design standards.
Qualifications Required
- Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent engineering design experience.
- 3+ years of CAD design experience in utility, industrial, power, or related infrastructure projects.
- Experience with AutoCAD and 3D modeling software.
- Working knowledge of parametric design principles, assembly constraints, and model-driven design workflows.
- Demonstrated experience using parameters, constraints, and assembly relationships to drive equipment clearances, conductor spacing, bus alignment, and reusable substation layouts.
- Understanding of electrical substations, utility infrastructure, or industrial facilities.
- Ability to interpret specifications, one-lines, vendor cut sheets, calculations, and engineering drawings.
