Position Overview: This a paid Internship opportunity for Six Months.
The Manufacturing Engineer Intern is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving manufacturing processes for electro-mechanical assemblies. This role ensures products are built efficiently, repeatably, and in compliance with customer, regulatory, requirements. The position supports production readiness, configuration control, and process validation activities to ensure on-time delivery of conforming products.
Key Responsibilities:
· Develop and maintain manufacturing processes for electro-mechanical assemblies (cable harnesses, PCB integration, mechanical subassemblies).
· Create and control work instructions, travelers, and process documentation in accordance with QMS requirements.
· Define tooling, fixtures, and equipment requirements to support efficient production.
· Support Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) initiatives.
· Provide hands-on engineering support to assembly operations, troubleshooting process and product issues.
· Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for nonconformances using structured methodologies (e.g., 5 Why, Fishbone, RCCA).
· Ensure proper configuration control of BOMs, drawings, and revisions at job release.
· Establish process controls to ensure repeatability and compliance with engineering and quality requirements.
· Validate manufacturing processes, including special processes such as soldering, bonding, and torque application.
· Identify and implement key process indicators (KPIs) for yield, efficiency, and defect reduction.
· Support risk management activities including PFMEA and control plans.
· Lead Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste, improve throughput, and optimize labor efficiency.
· Analyze production data to identify trends and implement corrective/preventive actions.
· Improve workflow, layout, and material flow within assembly areas.
Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of electro-mechanical assembly processes (wiring, crimping, soldering, PCB integration).Familiarity with IPC standards (e.g., IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, IPC/WHMA-A-620).Experience with ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing documentation control.Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and BOMs.Experience with root cause analysis and continuous improvement methodologies.Knowledge of ASME Y14.5M, of GD&T, and must understand the x, y, z coordinate system.Knowledge of AS9100 or ISO 9001 QMS requirements.Experience with PFMEA, and control plans.Lean/Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher preferred).Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced production environment.High attention to detail and commitment to quality and compliance.Effective communication skills (written and verbal).Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Education:
· In Progress of bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
· 0-2+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in electro-mechanical assembly environments. Experience in aerospace, avionics, or other regulated industries preferred.

· Ability to easily move through an approximately 25,000 square foot warehouse building,
· Ability to read, write, and understand English,
