SUMMARY:
Responsible for scrubbing in and assisting the physician for cases. After completion of each case, the surgical technologist will be on standby for sterile technician needs which includes the following aspects of sterile processing to
include decontamination, preparation packaging sterilization and sterile storage while adhering to department policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Demonstrates strong knowledge of sterile technique related to operating room preparation and procedures
• Demonstrates proficiency in medical and surgical technology
• Demonstrates strong knowledge of operating equipment and supplies
• Assists materials manager in maintaining inventories. Monitors and order supplies to maintain par levels
• Provides encouragement to team members, including communicating team goals and identifying areas for new training or skills checks
• Assists management with new team member training
• Protects patient and family privacy rights and maintains confidentiality of patient records
• Organizes the work flow, problem solves, and manages, multiple ongoing priorities with minimal supervision
• Receives information from various sources that is assimilated and communicated in an accurate, timely, and
effective manner
• Identifies and follows manufactures instructions to sort, disassemble, decontaminate, rinse and disinfect
instrumentation, flexible scopes, equipment
• Adheres to the proper handling of garbage, linen, and biohazardous materials
• Maintains awareness of safety hazards
• Facilitates room turnovers
• Assemble and prepare instrumentation for sterilization
• Consistently uses count sheets to correctly assemble, protect, wrap containerize and/or peel pack and label
instrumentations
• Identifies and inspects instruments for cleanliness and functionality
• Selects appropriate sterilization methods
• Follows manufactures recommendations for sterilization methods
• Properly documents and verifies sterilization loads and biological test to determine the efficacy of the sterilization
process
• Properly handles sterile product and ensures stock is places in the proper location
• Preparing carts from pick list
• Deliver instrumentation to as needed to the operating room
• Consistently makes rounds through the operating rooms and confirms instrumentation needs are met
• Troubleshoot problems and repairs
• Review instrumentation needs management
• Inventory and stock operating par levels for stored instrumentation and emergency carts
• Work with specialty surgical instrumentation
• Participates in staff and self-development meetings/in services
• Proficiency in utilization of instrumentation tracking system
• Maintains professional competences and certifications
• Maintain a clean and orderly work area
• Provides encouragement to team members, including communicating team goals and identifying areas for new training or skills checks
• Assists management with new team member training
• Acts as resource; gives advice and instructions to employees; coaches staff on assigned tasks; facilitates problem/issue resolution. Acts as expert/super user for equipment, technical problems, and for advanced or difficult procedures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• High School Diploma or GED
• Diploma from an approved Surgical Technologist Program and/or associate degree in a related field preferred
• Current Surgical Technologist Certification from an accredited program or completed an appropriate training
program for surgical technology in the army, navy, air force, marine corps, or coast guard of the United States or
in the United States Public Health Service
• Current BLS
