Job Summary
The Environmental Manager – Technical Lead supports the Environmental business by providing technical oversight of Environmental projects and mentoring Environmental Engineers, Environmental Scientists, and Environmental Technicians. This position is responsible for supporting the environmental service lines including providing technical guidance and review, along with driving business development. The Environmental Manager – Technical Lead provides senior-level review of proposals and reports, ensuring that client commitments, internal quality standards, and regulator requirements are met. This position is also responsible for mentoring and training of both senior and junior professionals, maintaining and expanding the environmental training library, and fostering consistent technical excellence across the company. In addition, the Environmental Manager – Technical Lead actively engages in client relations and business development activities contributing technical expertise, strategic insights, and leadership to support growth of the Environmental service line.
This role serves as the Environmental practice’s senior technical leader across the region, influencing project execution through standards, coaching, and technical governance rather than day-to-day task ownership. However, this role potentially serves in a senior project management role if the technical scope or client needs necessitate senior experience.

- Training and developing a network of subject matter experts capable of developing and delivering outstanding technical solutions for our clients
- Serve as a technical focal point for the Business Groups to deliver the necessary environmental services and creating alliances across the company to drive delivery of quality environmental services for AET’s clients.
- Develop and manage a mentoring program within the environmental practice that supports the progressive development of environmental professionals throughout their career.
- Implementation and compliance of the documentation of technical knowledge in the form of Standards and Practices and promoting knowledge sharing across the Business Groups.
- Fostering quality initiatives across the practice that will elevate the quality of our services and minimize risks for AET and our clients.
- Drive thought leadership within AET and the environmental consultation industry, as well as participating in industry conferences, to support brand positioning and key initiatives.
- Lead major pursuit coordination, including capture planning efforts, pre-proposal visitations, proposal preparation coordination with technical and marketing staff, presentations and negotiations.
- Travel up to 10% within the region, supporting the Environmental practice and pursuits in North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and surrounding areas.
- Partners with Market Sector Directors and Client Managers developing long-term tactical growth plans to best serve the environmental needs of AET’s clients.
- Collaborating with other disciplines to heighten awareness of the environmental consultation practice and establish partnerships to advance innovative concepts and mitigate risks for the benefit of AET and our clients.
- Develop and strengthen client and partner relationships to expand AET’s environmental footprint across the region, with a primary focus on AgVIC and Oil & Gas markets, while identifying and advancing additional environmental growth opportunities aligned with AET’s strategic objectives.
Supervisory Responsibility
This role will have direct responsibility for a team within the environmental practice, ensuring deadlines and performance standards are met by developing, coaching and counseling associates, organizing and evaluating workflow and results along with implementing policies and procedures to support the team. Also, may provide work direction company-wide to field engineers, technicians, and drillers as needed.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or industry related field with 15 or more years of related experience, OR;
- Advanced degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or industry related field with 13 or more years of related experience (preferred).
- Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.
Preferred Skills
- 5 years in a supervisorial role or equivalent type experience
- Ability to develop and implement creative/innovative solutions to a wide range of problems.
- Skill in reviewing contract terms and conditions and making recommendations for final review by company officer.
- Professional Engineer and/or Professional Geologist registration in Minnesota
Pay Transparency
Base compensation is expected to be in the range of $100,000.00 – $135,000.00 annually based on skill set and experience. The selected candidate must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. without requiring visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Work Environment
This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets. On occasion, this position will be required to operate outside.
