The Industrial Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of fleet vehicles, heavy equipment, and plant-related machinery used in cottonseed oil mill operations. This role ensures all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company safety and maintenance standards to support continuous mill production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on fleet vehicles, tractors, forklifts, loaders, trailers, and heavy equipment
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues and determine appropriate repairs
- Service diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, and suspensions
- Inspect equipment for safety, operational readiness, and regulatory compliance
- Maintain detailed maintenance and repair records, including work orders and parts usage
- Coordinate with maintenance and operations teams to prioritize repairs and minimize downtime
- Respond to equipment breakdowns during production and assist with emergency repairs
- Maintain garage tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and safe condition
- Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and lockout/tagout procedures
- Assist with equipment modifications or fabrication as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned to support mill operations
Qualifications:
- High school diploma, GED, or technical or trade school certificate preferred but not required.
- Diesel Mechanic Certification preferred.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience as a mechanic working with heavy equipment, fleet vehicles, or industrial machinery
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines and hydraulic systems
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and repair documentation
- Experience using diagnostic tools and computerized maintenance systems preferred
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred but not required

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Less than high school education; or up to one month experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information one-on-one and in small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Driver’s license preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, respirators, hearing protectors, etc. is required in designated areas.
