About Alexandria Soccer AssociationAlexandria Soccer Association (ASA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, established in 1970 in Alexandria, Virginia. The mission of ASA is to connect and engage the community through high quality, accessible, sports programs that positively impact Alexandria. Summary:The Alexandria Soccer Association (ASA) Summer Internship Program offers a structured, hands-on learning experience within a fast-paced nonprofit youth sports organization. Over the course of 8 weeks, the intern will rotate through multiple ASA programs to gain broad exposure to sports operations, event management, and nonprofit program delivery. The internship program emphasizes professional growth, teamwork, and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to ASA’s mission while developing practical skills for future careers in sports or community development.
Internship Program Details:Duration: 8 weeks (May 18 - August 9, off between June 29 - July 5)
Schedule: Approximately 12 hours per week (96 total hours)
Location: In-person in Alexandria, VA
Compensation: This is an unpaid internship, but the internship may be used for course credit depending on school requirements.
Key Responsibilities:Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Participate in an 8-week rotational program with exposure to our Recreation program, our amateur Reds teams, summer camps, and field operations.Assist with event setup, logistics, and on-site coordination for ASA tournaments, league play, SoccerFest, and other events.Support Recreation programming, including helping plan and execute SoccerFest.Support our adult amateur Reds teams by assisting with field setup for practices and games, coordinating league requirements, and supporting point-of-sale needs.Assist with operations projects, including spring season close-down, corner flag setup, sandbag filling, and Bownet preparation.Support summer camp operations, including site setup, equipment management, camper check-in, and photo/video capture.Attend regular check-ins and mentorship sessions with ASA supervisors.Complete a final project summarizing internship learnings, highlighting key observations, and presenting recommendations or creative materials to ASA staff.
Preferred Qualifications:Current college student or recent graduate preferred; interest in sports management, communications, education, or nonprofit leadership a plusOutstanding verbal and written communication skillsStrong time management and organizational skillsAbility to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in fast-paced environmentAbility to work some evenings and/or weekends for events
Physical Requirements:When working in the office, working conditions are normal for an office environment.The job may require the employee to function in high activity indoor and outdoor sports venues and the employee may be exposed to inclement weather of varying degrees.While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand for long periods of time and walk long distances.The employee may be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or sit and must lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.Weekly Plan | 2026 Summer Internship
