Infection PreventionistThe Infection Preventionist is a professional with a level of proficiency necessary for the assessment, analysis and trending of complex data. The Infection Preventionist will be trained in hospital epidemiology principles and is responsible for the surveillance, analysis, interpretation and reporting of hospital acquired infections (HAI); educating employees and community about disease transmission and prevention; and the development of health system policies and procedures to insure rigorous infection control standards that meet The Joint Commission, OSHA, Centers for Medicaid/Medicare Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other organized agencies recommendations and requirements.
Qualifications:Requires aBachelor's degree in Nursing, Public Health or Medical Technology. Requires current SC RN license or ASCP certification. Minimum of 3 years clinical experience in a hospital setting or public health experience required. Previous Infection Prevention and Control experience preferred. Must have a working knowledge of the principles of epidemiology and infectious disease, Infectious Disease laws and regulations associated with infection control and knowledge of public health/communicable disease policies and procedures, e.g., DHEC, TJC, OSHA, and EPA. Must have skills to identify problems and recommend solutions, prepare and maintain records and written reports, establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, hospital and medical staff, and the public.
Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) certification is preferred and may be obtained within 18 months of employment. All licensures and certifications must be kept up-to date.
