These BOP SSCs include items such as the site layout, civil-structural elements of Infinity One and Infinity Two Conventional and Fusion Islands (e.g., buildings, bio-shields), as well as the mechanical, electrical, fluid systems, controls, heat cycle, and power-conversion components (e.g., turbine-generator system).
The Senior Director – BOP Engineering role ensures that all BOP SSCs are developed and designed to meet performance and interface requirements, as well as relevant industry code and regulatory requirements, safety and quality expectations, constructability and maintainability needs, cost targets. The development and design of these BOP SSCs must be executed within the overall FusionDirect program plan, including schedule, budget and other program objectives.'
The Senior Director – BOP Engineering leads a multidisciplinary team that includes both internal Type One Energy employees, together with assigned AECOM partner organizational elements and other external contractors and seconded workforce. The role also includes primary interface responsibility with the Tennessee Vally Authority (TVA) for BOP design engineering interfaces with the TVA Bull Run site and services (e.g., power) relevant for Infinity One, the Infinity Two fusion power plant, and FusionDirect facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Provide management direction and technical oversight of all Infinity One, Infinity Two, and relevant FusionDirect facility BOP SSC design elements, including those in the civil, mechanical, electrical, and I&C engineering disciplines.
- Provide management direction and technical oversight for design of relevant SSC in FusionDirect program testing and development facilities for which Type One Energy and design responsibilities.
- Develop and execute multi‑year BOP design engineering staffing and work execution plans aligned with FusionDirect program milestones, budgets, schedules, and construction plans.
- Build, mentor, and lead a high‑performing BOP engineering organization, including discipline leads, subject‑matter experts, and external engineering partners.
Engineering & Technical Oversight
- Provide technical oversight and direction to the development of all BOP engineering deliverables for all non-fusion related SSCs for Infinity One, the Infinity Two fusion power plant, and relevant FusionDirect facilities.
- Ensure all BOP engineering interfaces and SSC requirements remain fully integrated and aligned with the fusion-related SSCs in Infinity One and Infinity Two, working closely with Systems Engineering.
- Direct development of drawings, specifications, design reports, and technical analyses to support the procurement and manufacturing of BOP SSCs.
- Develop BOP SSC field assembly plans and procedures, and provide engineering support for construction of the associated elements of Infinity One, the Infinity Two fusion power plant, and relevant FusionDirect facilities.
- Review and approve technical decisions and designs for all BOP SSCs. As it relates to the civil-structural aspects of Infinity One, the Infinity Two fusion power plant, and relevant FusionDirect facilities, this includes seismic and environmental performance, geotechnical investigations, hydrology, site layout, and modular construction methods.
Program & Project Management
- Develop and manage engineering budgets, staffing plans, and schedules for executing BOP engineering responsibilities related to Infinity One, the Infinity Two fusion power plant, and relevant FusionDirect facilities.
- Manage and coordinate the work scope assigned to AECOM and other engineering contractors, specialty consultants, and vendors.
- Support BOP SSC design engineering risk identification, mitigation planning, and change‑management processes.
- Drive BOP SSC constructability reviews, value engineering, and design‑to‑cost initiatives that also consider safety, performance, and schedule efficiency.
Regulatory & Quality Engagement
- Represent the technical and engineering design elements of all BOP SSCs for Infinity One, the Infinity Two fusion power plant, and relevant FusionDirect facilities during regulatory meetings, design reviews, and stakeholder engagements.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Partner and collaborate with leaders and teams responsible for non-BOP SSCs of Infinity One, the Infinity Two fusion power plant, and relevant FusionDirect facilities, to ensure seamless, coordinated interface and integration of all SSCs.
- Partner and collaborate with construction, project controls, procurement, and supply chain organizations responsible for the deployment of Infinity One and relevant FusionDirect facilities to ensure the engineered design of all BOP SSCs supports constructability and maintainability requirements.
