Position Summary:The Specialist Physician (Neurology) is responsible for providing specialized neurological services to adult patients, including the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of disorders of the nervous system. The Physician delivers care in an outpatient clinical setting in accordance with provincial legislation, College standards, and evidence-based medical practice.
What you will be doing:• Examine patients and obtain comprehensive medical histories to assess neurological function and overall health status• Diagnose and manage a wide range of neurological conditions, including headaches, migraines, seizure disorders, neuropathies, movement disorders, multiple sclerosis, and other central and peripheral nervous system conditions• Provide ongoing management of chronic neurological conditions and follow-up care within an outpatient setting• Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including laboratory investigations, neuroimaging (e.g., CT, MRI), and other relevant studies• Develop and implement individualized treatment and management plans, including prescribing medications and non-procedural therapies• Provide specialist consultations and medical opinions to referring physicians and other healthcare professionals• Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as clinically indicated• Educate patients and families regarding neurological conditions, treatment options, and disease management strategies• Maintain complete and accurate medical records and documentation in compliance with legal, regulatory, and professional standards• Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, including family physicians and allied health professionals• Refer patients to hospital-based services or other specialists for advanced diagnostics, procedures, or inpatient care when required• Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards of the provincial College of Physicians and Surgeons• Participate in quality assurance, peer review, and continuing professional development activities
You Have:• Medical degree from a recognized medical school• Completion of an approved residency program in Neurology• Certification or eligibility for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) in Neurology• Licensure or eligibility for licensure with the applicable provincial College of Physicians and Surgeons• Membership in good standing with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
