Summary:
Leads, develops and implements optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards. Recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods and controls.
Coordinates manufacturing launch and cross-functional support for new or revised products and/or programs. Embraces and exemplifies the Umbra Group values of FIRST– Focus on the Customer, Innovation, Respect, Social Responsibility & Teamwork.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain manufacturing plans, drawings/sketches and bill of materials.
Designs and evaluates tooling and fixtures for machining and assembly of complex mechanical and electrical systems.
Lead root-cause corrective action activities such as MRB decisions.
If required, develop and prove out CNC Programs for machines such as lathes, mills, hobs, shapers, and gear grinders
Ensures compliance with industry standards and customer requirements by developing inspection, test, plans and procedures for complex mechanical and/or electrical assemblies
Lead shop continuous improvement, lean manufacturing and daily management activities
Conduct detailed process analyses and implement changes to processes and procedures such as safety procedures, work methods, production processes and labor standards.
Develop and conduct assigned training programs for shop employees and other production engineers as applicable.
Responsible for maintaining a clean, orderly, and safe work environment.
Lead lean manufacturing activities.
Maintain and monitor SPC (Statistical Process Control).
Perform specific projects under supervision as assigned by manager.
Qualifications:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education/Experience:
Level III: Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent) from four-year college or university plus 5 years of work experience; Master's degree (M.S) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent) and at least 3 years of work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated aptitude with mechanisms and/or electronics. Understanding of complex assemblies of machined components and/or electrical equipment.
Prior work experience developing assembly processes to support manufacturing of parts & assemblies (preferred).
Experience writing and maintaining manufacturing planning for detailed parts, mechanical and electrical assemblies (preferred).
Experience in aviation, energy or similarly regulated industries (preferred). Programming experience of 2-5 axis CNC machining centers and gear analyzers(preferred).
Certificates and Licenses:
Lean and/or Six-Sigma Certification (preferred).
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Mentoring and coaching of junior engineers and manufacturing personnel.
Computer Skills:
Must be computer literate and knowledgeable in Windows XP, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and MS Dynamics-AX
At least five years of experience with CAD programs such as Solid Works.
Language, Math, and Reasoning Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, drawings, procedure manuals, professional journals, government regulations, and technical procedures.
Ability to write routine reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, top management, and employees of the organization.
Ability to accomplish common mathematical calculations, in all units of measure.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area circumference and volume.
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry, as well as trigonometry.
Must be able to communicate effectively, both written and verbal.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this position the employee is regularly required to stand,
walk, climb/balance, reach, talk and hear, work near moving mechanical parts, and occasionally work near fumes or airborne particles. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by
this job includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and focus adjustment.
Work Environment:
The job duties that are affected by the environmental conditions are of a typical manufacturing environment and its equipment including occasionally working near fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Safety glasses and hearing protection are required when on the shop floor.
