Position Information
The full salary range for the Building Controls Engineer position is $103.100.00 - $196,300.00 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $149,700.00 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. The Building Controls Engineer is a member of the UCR Facilities Services (FS), Energy & Utility Management team and plays a critical role maintaining building management/automation control system (BMS) functionality in coordination with Operations staff. The Building Controls Engineer is responsible for BMS commissioning and retro-commissioning for new and existing campus buildings. Possesses a strong technical background in electrical and mechanical engineering systems and applies project management skills and processes effectively. Reviews plans, specifications, requisitions, and multi-craft estimated projects to ensure compliance with campus standards. Uses various test equipment to troubleshoot, maintain, and perform repairs to field control interfaces and pneumatic control systems. Maintains relationships with service contractors, performs inspections, and oversees repairs of multiple building management/automation systems, software, communication networks and databases in compliance with campus standards. Reviews and optimizes HVAC sequence of operations to identify and implement campus-wide energy and sustainability initiatives and goals. Provides support, documentation, and training as needed to Maintenance and Operations staff regarding BMS functionality and implementation. The Building Controls Engineer will work independently while exercising professional judgement and providing professional recommendations to FS Leadership and other campus personnel.Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Minimum Requirements | Proven communication, organization, and project management skills. |

| Thorough knowledge of one or more of the following areas: natural gas, biomethane, carbon management, energy efficiency, direct access and/or wholesale electric power. |

| General knowledge in the following areas (but not limited to): power distribution, substation, lighting, back-up generation, controls/automation, communication networks, databases, SCADA/HMI, programming, photovoltaic systems, energy storage, variable frequency drives, demand management, smart-metering, building mechanical/electrical systems, motors, heat transfer systems, ventilating, air condition, refrigeration (HVAC/R), thermal systems, cooling towers, air handlers, chilled water, boilers, domestic water, steam distribution, natural gas and similar systems/areas. |
| General knowledge of industry standards of procedure and utility systems characteristics when inspecting or surveying building infrastructure for the basis of project design development. |
| General knowledge of California Building Electrical, Plumbing and Mechanical codes, Fire Protection codes, ADA standards and other applicable codes and standards required to achieve project objectives. |
| Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) principles. |
