Your role in the mission:
In this role you will helptoimplementnovel computational workflowsfor thedesignand analysisof the electromagnetsof ourstellaratorfusion reactors. You will work closely with ourteam of applied mathematician and computational physicists,as well as our coil engineers,tofurtherautomate ourcomputational pipelines forcoil optimization,validation, anddevelop novel algorithms to increase the efficiency and accuracy of these computations.
Experienceinscientific computing, python, high performance computing, and numerical optimizationisexpected, as is experiencewith distributed version control software (e.g.Github),andwith Jax,C++ and Fortran.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely withourcoil design teams to define optimal computational pipeline architecturesfor coil optimization, analysis and validation.
- Develop efficient codes to automate these computational pipelines.
- Implement novel algorithms to accelerate thesecomputational pipelinesand to increase the fidelity of our coil models.
- Apply these new codes to the design of electromagnets for our fusion pilot plant designs.
- DevelopGitHub actions for building and releasing software, documentation, and unit testing.
- Present your results in regular meetings withyour close collaborators, and in wider meetings with the Applied Physics teamand the Engineering Coil Design team.
- Document your progress within thecompany’s documentation system.
What you'll need:
- Master’s degree in computer science, scientific computing,orapplied/numericalmathematics.
- At least2yearsofindustry experience inengineering or applied physics,or a doctorate in computer science, scientific computing,orapplied/numericalmathematicsfocused on applied physics and engineering applications.
- Proficiency in Python
- Proficiency in Linux.
- Experience with Jax
- Experience in using git and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with C++ or Fortran is desirable.
- Experience with efficient algorithms for uncertainty quantification is desirable.
- Experience with efficient machine learning algorithms is desirable.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to workindependently andclosely withsenior colleagues.
