Position Overview
The Food Expeditor plays a critical role in ensuring smooth communication between the kitchen and front-of-house teams. This role is responsible for coordinating the timely delivery of food orders, ensuring accuracy, presentation, and quality standards are met before dishes are served to guests. The Expeditor supports the overall guest dining experience in a fast-paced, full-service hotel environment by maintaining organization, efficiency, and effective teamwork during service periods.
What You'll Do
Order Coordination & Communication
- Serve as the primary liaison between the kitchen and service staff, ensuring all meals are prepared and delivered accurately and promptly.
- Organize and prioritize incoming orders, maintaining proper sequence and timing.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with kitchen staff regarding order status, modifications, and special requests.
- Ensure servers receive completed dishes quickly and in the correct order.
Quality Control & Presentation Standards
- Inspect plates for presentation, temperature, portion size, and garnish consistency before leaving the kitchen.
- Ensure all dietary restrictions, allergy accommodations, and special requests are handled correctly.
- Coordinate delivery of condiments, sides, beverages, and accompaniments to guarantee complete service.
Service Flow & Efficiency Support
- Maintain an organized expo line with all necessary tools, supplies, and plating components.
- Support pacing of courses during high-volume meal periods and large group functions.
- Ensure efficient communication during peak service to prevent bottlenecks or delays.
- Assist with to-go orders and room service plating as required.
Collaboration & Team Assistance
- Work closely with servers, food runners, bussers, and kitchen staff to ensure exceptional guest service.
- Communicate any issues or delays to the front-of-house team promptly.
- Assist in training new team members on expo procedures, standards, and communication expectations.
- Provide support during banquet events and special dining functions as needed.
Safety & Sanitation Practices
- Ensure all expo stations and immediate kitchen areas are kept clean, organized, and sanitized.
- Follow all food safety guidelines, including proper temperature checks and safe handling practices.
- Monitor quality of food leaving the kitchen to maintain safety and hygiene compliance.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support line cooks and runners during peak volume periods when needed.
- Assist with stocking and organizing kitchen supplies for service.
- Participate in pre-shift meetings and ongoing team communication.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support Food & Beverage operations.
- Maintain reliable and consistent attendance as an essential function of the role.
What You'll Bring
Required Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Preferred Education & Experience
- Previous restaurant or hotel F&B experience preferred.
- Experience working in a kitchen, expo, or food-running role preferred.
- Familiarity with POS systems and kitchen ticket platforms preferred.
- Experience in a high-volume or full-service dining environment preferred.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Excellent communication and multitasking abilities in fast-paced environments.
- Strong sense of urgency and commitment to timely service.
- Ability to stay organized, calm, and focused under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail, especially regarding food presentation and accuracy.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with both kitchen and front-of-house teams.
- Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 30 lbs., and move quickly during service.
