About the role
Casa Esperanza, Inc. provides all personal protective equipment in accordance with the CDC guidelines. The Custodian is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of facilities, including residential program buildings, outpatient, youth program, and administrative offices in Boston. The role requires understanding the importance and need to provide a healthy campus environment during the COVID-19 pandemic.
What you'll do
- Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Sweeps mops scrubs, wax, polish and vacuums floors
- Gathers and empties trash
- Washes and sanitize toilets, sinks and showers and restock disposables (e.g. soap, toilet paper and hand towel)
- Dusts furniture, walls, and equipment
- Cleans windows, mirrors, and partitions with soap and other cleansers
- Mixes cleaning solutions and chemicals in containers in preparation for cleaning, according to instructions
- Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power machinery to prevent damage to floors and fixtures
- Cleans and polishes fixtures and furniture
- Shampoos or steam-cleans carpets and rugs
- Manages inventory of cleaning supplies
- Drives vehicles required to perform or travel to pick up of food and other supplies
- Assists in unloading food truck deliveries
- Delivers packages to programs, Program room turnover, cleans and sanitizes beds and furniture, washing and drying all linens.
- Washing and drying patient clothing using the appropriate procedures, tracking which items belong to whom
- Keeps an updated inventory of laundry supplies
- Available to assist Snow Removal as needed. Maintains all utility closets clean and organized, including mops, brooms and sinks
- Notifies managers regarding the need for repairs or additions to building operating systems Works with facilities in setting up rooms for meetings, events and classrooms
- Properly uses and maintains power equipment and tools to maintain safety
- Secures facilities by locking doors, closing windows and setting up the alarm if the building is unoccupied
- Reports all other health and safety hazards noticed
- Participates in emergency drills and environmental safety activities, as requested
- Attends and participates in inservice trainings.
- Performs other duties as specified in job description addendum or as assigned
- Assisted to projects as needed.
Qualifications
- Physical and mental capability
- Capable of organizing their activities properly and fulfilling them promptly
- Possess the capability to manage and attend to emergencies if need be
- Must be able to perform complicated tasks such as moving, carrying, and storing heavy items is also required
- Also, the custodian job is physically demanding, since it requires ability to clean, dust, and wipe rooms and large furniture, as well as floors and carpets; wash walls and equipment with the help of ladders when needed
- Communication skills
- The ability to follow directions is crucial for this professional.
- Must be able to comprehend what is requested of them, and if the need arises to collaborate either with colleagues or with the lead custodian
- Detail-oriented
- Attention to details is critical in this line of business in order for the custodian to fulfill his/her duties properly
- Excellent attention to detail—always clean and wash accordingly and follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies
- The custodian ensures they have covered all the necessary activities for the day
- Responsibility.
- A custodian has to be a reliable individual.
- They must possess a good memory and the ability to perform tasks dutifully.
- Has a high sense of responsibility toward their daily performance expectations.
- Training Requirements:

Schedule
- Working Hours and Environment:
- This is a full-time position; working days are Monday through Friday from 7am to 3pm.

- Compensation: $23.00 - $25.00/hour
- 401(k) Retirement Plan: All eligible employees may elect to participate after 1 year of service. Casa Esperanza, Inc. will match a contribution of up to 6% of your annual salary

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
