About the role
The Yard Technician maintains an organized and efficient yard while supporting marine construction operations on land and in the water. This role is responsible for material staging, inventory control, loading and unloading trucks, trailers, and barges, equipment tagging, and coordinating with crews to ensure accurate tracking and flow of materials. The position also installs and removes piers, boat lifts, and accessories using hand tools and machinery, performing labor-intensive work in various weather conditions while prioritizing safety and operational efficiency.
What you'll do
- Organize, monitor, and maintain a clean, efficient yard, ensuring all materials (raw, finished, and in-process) are accurately tracked, cycle counted, properly stored, and staged for daily production and crew needs.
- Load, unload, identify, distribute, and account for materials and equipment, including trucks, trailers, barges, and returned items; ensure lifts and equipment are properly tagged and documented.
- Collaborate with construction manager and construction crews to determine material needs, prepare daily loads, and support overall inventory accuracy across departments.
- Assist in the construction, maintenance, installation, and dismantling of docks, piers, lifts, and other marine structures on land and in water.
- Operate and maintain hand and power tools, barges, and related equipment; perform routine checks to ensure tools and equipment are safe and properly stored.
- Prepare and clean job sites, including debris removal from yards, barges, and waterways, and assist with scaffolding and temporary structures as needed.
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and personal flotation devices, while working in diverse weather and marine environments.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- CDL A preferred.
- Previous experience in a marine or construction environment is highly advantageous.
- Ability to swim and comfort working on or near water.
- Familiarity with hand tools, basic carpentry, and machinery.
- Boaters Safety.
- Certification in CPR and first aid is a plus.

Working Conditions and Physical Efforts:
- Work involves walking, talking, hearing, lifting, pushing, pulling, and/or carrying up to 100 pounds occasionally in addition to using material-handling equipment.
- May be required to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Vision abilities require close vision assessments. Moderately loud noise levels in the work environment.
- Ability to perform labor-intensive tasks repeatedly and stand for long periods.
- Steel-toe boots are required.
