Formula / Milk Tech - Full Time for 10-12 weeks, then PRN
CHKD is hiring a Formula/Milk Tech to support the dietary needs of our infant patients. This is a great role for early-career talent or established dietary professionals looking to expand on their experience in a hospital setting.
Note: This role will come aboard as a full-time, 5-days-per-week position for 10-12 weeks. After that, the employee would continue on PRN — with a strong chance for part-time or full-time hours as staffing opens.
Food & Nutrition Services is a 7-day/week operation at CHKD. The Formula/Milk Tech must be available for rotating shifts between the hours of 6AM-7PM (AM shift 6AM-2PM; Mid-shift 8AM-4PM; PM shift 11AM-7PM).

GENERAL SUMMARY
-
The Formula/Milk Technician is responsible for the receiving, handling, storage, preparation, and delivery of human milk and formula, including both maternal expressed milk and donor milk. All preparation and handling procedures must comply with sanitary regulations and the standards established by CHKD. This role operates in accordance with organizational policies and protocols. Reports to department leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Receives, handles, stocks, stores, mixes, delivers human milk (maternal and Donor) and formula according to patient-specific orders documented in the electronic medical record (EMR).

Utilizes Timeless for human milk/formula recipes.

Communicates with lead Formula/Milk technician, Milk Manager and Registered Dietitians regarding discrepancies or issues with feeding orders or milk/formula storage.

Complies with upkeep of daily records and temperature logs.

Maintains appropriate inventory levels of formula and supplies to prevent urgent or overnight orders.

Properly labels, dates, and stores prepared formula requiring refrigeration, following formula room protocols.

Maintains a sanitary and safe environment by following departmental and infection prevention policies; reports unsafe conditions and accident to manager and/or appropriate personnel.

Accurately measures solids and liquids using proper technique and standardized tools.

Maintains clean equipment and cleans small wares in dishwasher, records dish machine temperatures per procedure.

Monitors and documents refrigerator and freezer temperatures daily in designated pantries and work areas.

Removes and properly disposes of damaged or expired formula products in compliance with facility guidelines.

Adheres to uniform policy established in area, including restrictions on artificial nails and requirements for clean, short, unpolished fingernails.

Assists in training other employees in feeding preparation and proper handling techniques as needed.

Actively prepares for regulatory, department and hospital inspections.

Participates in process improvement activities and educational opportunities as provided/assigned.

Bachelor’s degree in Nutritionist/Science preferred.

Food service, formula room, nutrition experience and computer skills preferred.

Strong computer skills including proficiency and technical aptitude in MS Office products, including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Word
