The Director of Youth Hockey is a leadership role with Total Package Hockey (TPH) / North Alabama Hockey Association (NAHA) responsible for the culture, growth, andtechnical development of the entire youth hockey ecosystem . This individual will oversee the full player pathway—from the first steps on the ice to 6U and eventually into the competitive environment of Travel hockey. The Director will serve as the "Face of Hockey" for the organization, bridging the gap between administrative excellence and elite on-ice instruction.
Key Responsibilities
1. Hockey Operations & Player Development
- Pathway Management: Oversee House All-Star teams, and the Travel hockey teams.
- Curriculum Design: Implement a unified TPH-based development syllabus that ensures skill progression across all age groups.
- Travel Coaching: Serve as the Head Coach for one (1) designated Travel team, modeling elite coaching standards for the rest of the staff.
- Evaluation & Placement: Lead the planning and execution of tryouts, evaluations, and team selections to ensure fair and competitive placement.
- Create spring and summer options for travel and aspiring travel level players and families
2. Coaching Leadership & Education
- Staff Training: Recruit, vet, support and mentor volunteer and paid coaches.
- Conduct regular "Coach-the-Coach" clinics to ensure alignment with TPH development philosophies.
- Culture Building: Establish and maintain a high standard of conduct for coaches, players, and parents.
- Organizational Identity: Establish and implement a unified organizational "Style of Play" and vertical development curriculum, ensuring age-specific skill progression and tactical alignment across all levels to create a seamless transition for athletes each year.
3. Fundraising & Strategic Growth
- Revenue Generation: Lead fundraising initiatives to meet annual targets.
4. Administrative & Financial Integration
- Report Monthly into the NAHA board on the winter teams progress
- Collaboration: Work alongside the Manager of Hockey Operations and TPH Financial Services to ensure programs stay within budget.
- Communication: Act as the primary liaison between the Huntsville Ice Sports Center, NAHA and the hockey community, providing regular updates on program goals and successes.
5. Create Clear Player Pathways
- From LTPH to 18U Travel to local club hockey at UAH or the NAHA adult league, create a Huntsville player experience that grows a players love for the game.
- Create Tier III junior and club hockey options for those players who stay in Huntsville and play out their youth eligibility in Huntsville.
- Work with regional Tier I and Development League programs to help players and their families advance if they have the commitment, skills and desire to play at this level.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: past coaching experience preferably ; previous experience as a Hockey Director or Program Coordinator preferred.
- Certification: USA Hockey Level 4 or 5 coaching certification (or equivalent) preferred.
- Leadership: Proven ability to manage a diverse group of coaches and navigate the complexities of a non-profit hockey association.
- Communication: Strong public speaking and written communication skills for parent town halls and board reporting.
- Business Acumen: Experience with fundraising, sponsorships, or basic sports management financials.
This is a full-time year round position. Pay range is $60,000-70,000 based on experience. The position comes with full benefits including medical, dental, vision, life and disability coverage, 401(k) plan with match.
