POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Clinical Educator collaborates with leadership to create and implement clinical education programsaimed at improving the quality of patient care. A key responsibility involves training and supporting preceptors who onboard new clinical staff and students. Further, the Clinical Educator is instrumental in the ongoing evaluation and hands-on application of these educational initiatives directly within the clinical practices. The programs educate a wide range of clinical professionals, from student nurses and new graduates to experienced RNs, LPNs, and various levels of medical assistants.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Collaborates and assists Clinical Education Manager with program design and delivery of a broad range of Clinical Education’s programming to support competency development for IHA clinical staff.
- Helps develop and implement Clinical Education programs by conducting needs assessments/ surveillance.
- Assists in the evaluation of Clinical Education program’s quality.
- Coordinates and develops ongoing programming for clinical orientation, office-based clinical skills, train the trainer sessions with current and new preceptors, new equipment/procedures and annual competency sessions.
- Helps develop, teach and roll out training materials for critical clinical policies, projects, competency checklists for new clinical skills, and new equipment across the organization.
- Actively teaches clinical orientation, various clinical courses and annual competency sessions.
- Actively coordinates and teaches BLS training within IHA in accordance with AHA BLS standards.
- Conducts ongoing evaluation of clinical staff through audits, silent monitors and chart reviews to ensure skills meet IHA’s expectations.
- Assists with practice-based in-services and competencies (new protocol education, in-servicing on use of new equipment or technology, clinic-specific competencies.)
- Partners with Human Resources to continuously navigate potential students to become a part of the IHA clinical team.
- Develops clinical preceptors across IHA to ensure IHA’s clinical support staff are providing high quality care.
- Partners with clinical preceptors to teach clinical skills that are not performed at the office, and IHA standards which includes, but is not limited to, clinical policies, protocols and guidelines.
- Provides 1:1 support to preceptors to teach clinical skills based on the Clinical Education program’s course content and streamlines the program’s curriculums and any other new student programs.
- Actively teaches nurse mentor program and collaborates with nurse mentors to support student nurses enrolled in the Pathway to Nurse in IHA Program.
- Oversees and collaborates with the Clinical Education Trainer/Teacher- MA Programs.
- Partners with Compliance, Human Resources, and Quality & Performance Improvement to integrate critical competencies to achieve and maintain accreditation from certifying bodies.
- Supports top of license work for all nurses and top of scope practice for all MAs and CSAs within the organization.
- Assists with obtaining CEUs/ nursing contact hours for evidence-based IHA educational offerings.
- Maintains documentation to maintain accurate records and achievements (badges, certificates, etc.) for IHA educational offerings.
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives including training based upon evidence-based research.
- Attends relevant committees or groups that support work efforts.
- Supports multiple offices/departments, attends required meetings and training and participates in committees as requested.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor of Science-Nursing (BSN). MSN preferred.
CREDENTIALS/LICENSURE: Valid, unrestricted RN license in the State of Michigan; Valid BLS certification.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 3-5 years’ clinical, ambulatory care experience preferred.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS (ABILITIES & SKILLS):

- Has general understanding of adult learning principles and training methodologies.
- Must have a demonstrated ability to effectively facilitate an education session in a classroom setting or coaching 1:1; possesses solid communication skills to effectively respond to questions from a group of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
- Must have the ability to lead and facilitate quality improvement initiatives and evaluate outcomes of interventions and effectiveness of the improvements.
- Excellent communication skills in both written and verbal forms, including proper phone etiquette. Ability to speak before groups of people, in-person or virtually.
- Independently motivated with proven ability demonstrate initiative and excellent follow-through on initiatives.
- Knowledge of patient care procedures and organizational policies related to position responsibilities.
- Knowledgeable in medical terminology.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations during the course of performing basic job duties.
- Proficient in operating a standard desktop and Windows-based computer system, including but not limited to, electronic medical records, email, e-learning, intranet, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and computer navigation. Ability to use other software and audiovisual equipment as required while performing the essential functions of the job.

MINIMUM ENVIRONMENTAL EXPECTATIONS:
This job operates in a medical facility and requires regular walking to various locations around the hospital/clinic. Employees will be working where there is patient care equipment. Hazardous materials, including bloodborne pathogens and bodily fluids are also present. Exposure to sharps, x-rays, patients' conditions and some unpleasant sights, smells and contagious diseases is possible. This position requires significant interaction with people (many of whom are scared, hurt and/or ill) which can be stressful and result in competing priorities.
