Position Type: Independent Contractor (1099)
Location: Mount Dora, FL (100% On-Site)
About the role
Steamroller Animation is looking for a proactive, autonomous, and detail-oriented Production Coordinator to join our team for a high-profile, confidential R&D project. This isn’t your average production role. You will be the primary production point of contact for a pioneering technical project, working closely with a skeleton crew of elite animators and a world-class client. If you are someone who thrives in high-security environments, loves the "behind-the-curtain" technical side of the industry, and can manage project flow with minimal hand-holding, we want to hear from you.
This project is highly confidential and R&D-focused. You will be navigating a technical landscape that explores new styles and methods of animation. Because of the sensitive nature of the data and strict client security protocols, this role requires a dedicated presence 100% on-site at our Mount Dora, FL studio.
Responsibilities
- Client Relations: Act as the face of Steamroller in closed-door client reviews. You must be able to confidently represent our processes and standards while managing expectations for a non-creative, technical client base.
- Shotgrid Mastery: Oversee all task tracking, schedule management, and delivery preparations within Shotgrid. You will ensure every deliverable is on target and every asset is accounted for.
- Autonomous Management: Support a small, high-impact animation team. You’ll need to keep their plates full, identify potential red flags before they become issues, and ensure the project stays on bid.
- Technical Workflow: Handle internal and external file versioning and deliveries. In this high-security environment, you are the gatekeeper for data moving between the studio and the client.
- Collaborative Planning: Work directly with the Head of Production to report weekly updates, manage resource allocation, and refine the production workflow as the project evolves through its various phases.
Requirements
- Location: Ability to work on-site in our Mount Dora, FL office, Monday through Friday. This is a full-time, in-house requirement due to client security constraints.
- Experience: 1–2 years of experience in the production of sequential work (Animation, VFX, or Games).
- Shotgrid Expert:Experience with Shotgrid is required. You should be comfortable jumping into a complex system and hitting the ground running from day one.
- Confidentiality: Proven ability to handle sensitive material and adhere to strict NDAs and security protocols.
- Professionalism: Exceptional interpersonal skills. You can build strong relationships with clients and remain diplomatic under pressure.
- Nice to Haves:
- Experience with Jira/Confluence or Perforce is a plus.
- Previous experience with customer service or managing outsourced client relationships.
The Ideal Candidate
- The "Self-Starter": You don’t need a manager to tell you what needs to be done next. You see a gap and fill it.
- Analytical Mindset: You enjoy the minutiae—spreadsheets, bids, and data tracking are where you excel.
- Communication Pro: You can translate technical R&D needs into actionable animation tasks and vice versa.
- Adaptable: Since this is R&D, the path isn’t always linear. You are comfortable with shifting targets and exploring different animation approaches (Keyframe, Mocap, etc.).
