Job Summary:
Voyager Technologies is seeking a Plant Superintendent for our black powder manufacturing facility and soon a new chemical plant. The Plant Superintendent is a key operational leader responsible for coordinating production activities, ensuring safe and efficient manufacturing, and supporting the daily execution of the production plan. This role provides direction to Production Supervisors, works closely with Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, and EHS, and ensures that all production objectives, safety requirements, and quality standards are met.
The Plant Superintendent acts as the bridge between frontline leadership and senior site leadership, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, resource needs, and operational priorities.
Because this role supports operations involving explosive materials, all clothing, PPE, and end-of-day shower requirements must be strictly followed.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee day-to-day production operations across all shifts by providing leadership, direction, and guidance to Production Supervisors.
- Ensure production schedules, staffing plans, and resource needs are met to support safe and reliable output.
- Coordinate closely with the General Site Manager on production priorities, equipment needs, and long-term operational planning.
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture, ensuring adherence to SOPs, safety rules, and explosive-handling requirements.
- Support incident investigations, implement corrective actions, and ensure compliance with regulatory and company standards.
- Monitor production performance, drive improvements in efficiency, throughput, and quality, and ensure attainment of daily and weekly KPIs.
- Prioritize work orders, schedule preventive maintenance, and minimize unplanned downtime.
- Lead and oversee continuous improvement initiatives, including 5S, kaizen events, waste reduction, and process optimization.
- Provide coaching and development to Production Supervisors and influence training needs for production staff.
- Conduct Supervisor level performance reviews and provide input to the General Site Manager on staffing.
- Ensure cross-training programs are implemented by Supervisors to strengthen workforce flexibility.
- Serve as the primary operational link between Production Supervisors and the General Site Manager.
- Lead daily production meetings, ensuring accurate communication of priorities, risks, and performance updates.
- Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, EHS, and Maintenance to address operational challenges and ensure timely product delivery.
- Oversee root-cause investigations for the production area and ensure corrective actions are implemented by the appropriate team members.
- Escalate significant risks, resource constraints, or operational issues to your manager while supporting execution at the supervisor level.
Required Qualifications:
- Strong leadership, coaching and communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related Engineering discipline preferred.
- Demonstrated problem analysis and problem-solving skills and ability to coach team members in developing these skills.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, plan, coordinate and execute.
- Ability to refine manufacturing processes to achieve continuous improvements in quality, delivery and cost.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment
- Minimum 5 years of managerial experience
- Eligible to obtain and maintain State and Federal explosives licenses, including:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Pass pre-employment drug test
- Pass State and Federal background checks
