A Machine Operator will process individual copper strands to a completed multiple strand construction. This function includes following the manufacturing process per the work order, the use of a forklift and overhead crane to stage material, following established machine set-up documents, processing the copper in accordance with established process parameters, conducting required quality activities, completing required documentation, labeling and staging of conforming product.
Essential Job Functions
- Perform random final inspection accurately, and unbiased on reels before moving to stock
- Perform all the quality test required by customer and Lake Copper Conductors requirements
- Verify and Validate tests performed by operators on start-ups and change overs, etc.
- Assist in the inspection of customer returns and re-work process
- Perform random Workmanship Evaluations on reels currently in stock
- Control the Non-conformance area by enforcing Non-Conformance Product control procedure
- Must be able to work with and communicate with all personnel at Lake.
- Understand, plan and execute the ISO procedures, methods, and work instructions outlined for Lake
- Assist with developing, implementing, and managing Lake Copper Conductors’ Quality Management System
- Assist with developing, implementing, and managing Internal Audits program meeting the requirements of the Lake Copper Conductors and ISO Standard
- Assist with developing, implementing, and managing Document Control and Record Retention systems
- Assist with the communication and explanation of all documented quality requirements to associated employees
- Will perform quality inspections per requirements and will document records appropriately using official formats available
- Participates actively in the problem analysis process. (Root Cause determination and development, implementation, and follow up of Corrective Actions)
- Assures that all calibrated inspection equipment shows current calibration status, and calibration is properly maintained and used
- Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of a process line audits program
- Assist in the data collection and data entry in computer system as required.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to complete work assignments in a timely fashion with a degree of workmanship consistency
- Ability to communicate effectively and take direction from shift supervisors and management
- Documented training in ISO Quality Management Systems and Internal Auditing preferred
- Familiar with ISO Standard and requirements.
- May be required to work outside regularly scheduled work times and over-time activities.
- Able to understand MSDS and HMIS documentation.
- Computer experience desired; job specific computer training will be provided
- Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite
- Operation of a forklift desired
- Reliable transportation to go between both Elkhart plants
Qualifications
- Completion of High school, GED or equivalent
- Experience in quality in a manufacturing setting
- Must comply with all company rules and policies.
Work Environment
While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee operates within a plant environment. The employee is exposed to loud continuous noise from surrounding operating machinery.
Physical Demands
This is an active role as the employee will work in a manufacturing environment. While performing the essential functions of the job the employee will be required to stand, balance or walk on a consistent basis and may on a frequent basis be required to twist, turn, stoop, squat, kneel, bend or reach. The employee must use safe lifting techniques when lifting objects up to 50 pounds and carry out repetitive hand/wrist movements to include forearm rotation. Specific vision abilities required job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
