The Payroll Specialist III is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely employee, retiree, and board compensation, including proper withholding and deductions. This job process overtime, bonuses, and commissions; maintains payroll records; prepares reports; and addresses payroll inquiries from employees and supervisors, all under minimal supervision. Acts as the SAP payroll super user.
- Processes payroll transactions such as garnishments, deductions, benefits and adjustments accurately and timely, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Analyzes payroll data to identify discrepancies and resolves issues through detailed investigation and problem-solving.
- Supports the development and implementation of payroll policies and procedures.
- Identifies and resolves payroll rejections in SAP by reviewing error messages, analyzing system data, and implementing corrective actions to ensure accurate payroll processing. Investigate root causes of payroll discrepancies in SAP, such as configuration issues, data entry errors, or system malfunctions.
- Prepares and maintains payroll reports, summaries, and records for management review and audit purposes.
- Collaborates with HR and Finance departments to ensure accurate employee data and timely updates to payroll systems.
- Assists in the preparation of year-end payroll tax filings and ensures compliance with reporting requirements.
- Stays current with changes in payroll legislation to ensure best practices are followed.
- Reconciles employee and retiree life insurance, health insurance, and other benefit plans.
- Creates and maintains documentation for all payroll processes.
- Acts as the SAP payroll super user.
- Graduation from high school or GED supplemented related administrative experience, or any equivalent combination of education, experience and knowledge. Requires 3 - 5 years of related working experience.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and other desktop applications as necessary.
- Knowledge and Skills in SAP preferred.
- Ability to provide backup to the Accounts Receivable department, and assist customers at the payment desk.
- Ability to meet strict payroll deadlines and manage time effectively during payroll cycles. Ability to work independently while maintaining consistency and accuracy.
- Ability to keep complex records, to assemble and organize data and to prepare reports from such data.
- Ability to compose and edit various types of business correspondence.
- Ability to communicate information that requires some explanation or interpretation.
- Ability to perform administrative and management duties with minimal direction from a supervisor.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co- workers and the public.
