What You’ll Do
As an Outpatient Wound Care Registered Nurse, you’ll report to the Manager of the Wound Clinic. You will perform thorough assessments of wounds, plan a course of action, implement the appropriate treatment, and evaluate the results. You work collaboratively with the patient care team to educate patients and establish strong patient-family relationships. You will collaborate with other professional, clinical, and ancillary staff in providing quality care to patients. You display strong teamwork, practice self-care, and demonstrate self-awareness in order to be empathetic and compassionate in every interaction. You use independent judgment to ensure optimal delivery of patient care and appropriate use of available resources.
Outpatient Woundcare RN Job Responsibilities
- Performs a thorough assessment of any wound and documents accordingly.
- Assures implementation of appropriate treatment plan based on the patient's needs and the physician's input.
- Exhibits sound clinical judgment based on standards of care, including Nursing Policies and Procedures.
- Evaluates patient care given to a specific wound and guides management, staff, and physicians as indicated.
- Documents/Communicates clearly and concisely the progress or concerns regarding the treatment plan with staff and physicians.
- Contributes to the interdisciplinary plan of care using assessment data.
- Involves the patient/family in developing a plan of care.
- Carries out physicians' orders in a timely manner.
- Guides policy and procedure development relating to skin and wound care.
- Participates in wound care product review and evaluation.
- Demonstrates the ability to prioritize multiple, simultaneous demands.
- Enhances efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and clinical outcomes for wound care patients.
- Stays current in wound care standards of care and acts as a resource to other providers.
- Participates in continuous quality improvement by identifying areas of opportunity and following up with necessary actions.
Educates patients, family members, and other support individuals on wound prevention and treatment.
Identifies ongoing care needs of the patient for discharge planning.
Documents all patient notes, as well as the care provided, accurately and completely in the EMR system.
Provides formal and informal staff development in-service.
Orients new staff to the role of Wound Care Clinician.

You bring the ability to communicate positively and effectively with all levels of participants in health-care delivery, in both formal and informal settings, and with individuals as well as groups of varying sizes. You have clinical expertise appropriate for the designated patient population. You have skills in auditing outcomes concurrently and retrospectively. You have advanced analytical and problem-solving skills; computer use is required. You organize workload efficiently. You’re capable of managing a complex workload, establishing priorities, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of reimbursement processes and community resources.
Required Qualifications

Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN), required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), preferred.

Candidates hired after January 1, 2014, must have or obtain a BSN within five (5) years of employment as a Registered Nurse, or will have the option to become certified in their area of specialty. The certification must be maintained based on accrediting body standards.

Current Indiana Registered Nurse license.

Wound Certification from an accredited program, preferred.
- A minimum of 1 to 2 years of job-related experience, preferred.
