Job DescriptionThe Forests & Biodiversity
Campaigner will contribute to the strategic planning and execution of the
Forest & Biodiversity campaign work in GPAF using an integrated approach
that enables fundraising and engaging audiences to build counter-power effectively.
The role will work with the Forests & Biodiversity Campaign Lead to design
evidence-based, data-driven campaigns working closely with different teams to
ensure effective delivery of the Forest & Biodiversity work. The role will monitor the emerging biodiversity
and climate action opportunities in the African landscape, analyze trends, and
table suggestions for GPAf to respond to. It will also work closely with the
relevant campaign leads to design multi-sectoral response strategies.
The role effectively engages key
stakeholders, including government, businesses, lawyers, farmers, media, and
civil society, in coordination with the Forests & Biodiversity Lead for the
execution of campaign interventions. The Forests & Biodiversity Campaigner
will contribute to the Project Management cycle processes for the Forests &
Biodiversity work from assessment to reporting.
Roles & ResponsibilitiesPlanning and implementation of project
work
•
Contribute to developing and
implementing the Forests & Biodiversity strategy.
•
Ensure project activities are
effectively planned and executed in line with the campaign strategy. Plan and
execute campaign activities, media work, research, political and corporate work
and the use of legal and scientific approaches to issues, in collaboration with
relevant teams.
•
Ensures project activities are
communicated in a way that resonates with target audiences.
•
Ensures reports/scientific
outputs/submissions of a high quality are produced and used as campaign tools
Project management
• Contributes to the project cycle
processes including planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting ensuring
the campaigns work reflects quality, timeliness and effectiveness.
• Prepare and implement an individual work
plan with measurable performance objectives on how the role contributes to the
Forests & Biodiversity outcomes.

Ensures timely submission of outputs to
the Campaign Lead for consolidation.
• Contributes to the development, planning
and implementation of the engagement and fundraising strategy related to
relevant project work.
Responsiveness
• Responsive
opportunities are identified and campaign activities are planned and executed
in a timely manner to advance on the ToC.
• Ensures that Greenpeace
Africa can respond effectively to strategic opportunities, and influence the
development of relevant national and international legislation and practices.
Building External networks &
Communication
• Establish communication
and ensure collaboration with local authorities, international bodies, NGOs,
partners, lawyers, community leaders and all other important stakeholders
within each project as required.
• Represent Greenpeace
Africa at meetings, establish communication and ensure collaboration with local
authorities, international bodies, NGOs, partners, lawyers, community leaders
and all other important stakeholders as required in coordination with the Forests &
Biodiversity team.
• Develop, build
alliances and maintain good relationships with other NGOs and other relevant
groups.
• In conjunction with
Greenpeace Africa engagement team, design, create and use a range of
communication tools (direct actions, direct communication, traditional and new
media, briefing sheets and public information) to communicate with target
audiences and to achieve campaign objectives.
• Prepare substantive
briefings and updates to inform staff, media and stakeholders on specific
campaign issues, progress and outcomes.
Qualifications & Requirements• University degree in Social Sciences, Policy, Development,
Biodiversity, or related field.
• Knowledge of the Congo Basin PESTLE landscape.
• Experience working in an international, multicultural
team.
• A strong Pan-African Mindset.
• Ability to be responsive to external moments.
• Familiarity with the project management cycle.
• Ability to negotiate, build consensus, convene diverse
stakeholders, and facilitate dialogue to mutual outcomes.
• Knowledge and/or experience in campaigning, creative
advocacy content, execution of strategies, lobbying, and canvassing projects.
