Summary & Objective
The Technician, Laundry tends to laundry machines to wash, dry, fold, and sort soiled articles such as clothes, linens, towels, and other items as needed and/or requested by the resident and/or patient. This is a crucial role in the presentation of CHS to its residents, visitors, and staff by ensuring all textiles are well cared for and maintained.
Knowledge & Experience Requirements
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Previous experience in a health care setting preferred
- Must have knowledge of computer office software
- Must be able to read, write, and understand the English language.
Essential Functions
- Communicates professionally. Uses clear, respectful, and courteous language. Practices active listening and engages in and encourages meaningful conversation.
- Documents wash concentration and temperatures daily.
- Collect, wash, dry, sort and return personal clothes for resident and/or patient per schedule.
- Labels all unlabeled resident and/or patient's clothing and personal linen.
- Mends torn personal clothing articles.
- Sort and count articles to verify quantities on the laundry list.
- Fills linen carts and delivers them to the appropriate unit.
- Completes pressing process for appropriate items or as directed.
- Keeps work area sanitized, clean, and in order at all times.
- Keeps an updated inventory of laundry detergents and sewing kits.
- Tracks maintenance and repairs on the laundering equipment.

Other Duties
- Reports any supply shortages and equipment breakdowns to Supervisor, Environmental Services or designee.
- Reports any foreign or biohazardous materials or objects found in laundry items to the Supervisor or designee.
- Participates in staff in-service training
- Follows all infection control and safety precautions when laundering items.
- Provides orientation to new employees as needed.
- Floats to other units as assigned
- Maintain mandatory skill updates
- Comply with all policies, local, state and federal laws and regulations
- Preforms other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility
- May serve as an interim department leader depending on need
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 250+ pounds, walk, climb stair or ladders, stand on feet for extended periods of time, etc.
- The employee may work in outside weather condition and may be exposed to fumes and airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
