Registered Nurse - Surgical Trauma
Under the direction of the Nurse Manager or Executive Director of Nursing (Ambulatory), the Advanced Clinical Nurse delivers expert, age-specific, patient-centered care in close collaboration with physicians and interdisciplinary teams. This role blends advanced clinical skills with professional leadership to support high-quality outcomes across diverse care settings.
The Advanced Clinical Nurse is accountable for comprehensive patient care, including thorough assessments, medication administration, identification of nursing diagnoses, and development and implementation of individualized plans of care. Care is provided or delegated in alignment with Valleywise Health policies, evidence-based practice, and regulatory standards.
In addition to direct clinical care, the Advanced Clinical Nurse serves as a patient and family advocate and educator, ensuring clear communication, informed decision-making, and continuity of care. Responsibilities include accurate and timely documentation, indirect supervision of ancillary personnel as assigned, and active participation in team collaboration, quality improvement initiatives, and performance improvement activities.
This role demonstrates advanced professional practice by promoting comprehensive, cost-effective, and culturally responsive healthcare in a dynamic and diverse environment. The Advanced Clinical Nurse further contributes to the advancement of nursing practice through leadership, mentorship, and involvement in quality, safety, and innovation initiatives. Standby or on-call responsibilities may be required.
Hourly Pay Rate: $35.52 - $52.39
Qualifications
Education:
- Requires a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Nursing.
Experience:
- Must have at least one (1) year of recent acute care hospital RN experience that demonstrates an understanding of the required knowledge, skills and abilities; or if completed the New Grad RN program at Valleywise Health then must have at least one (1) year of Valleywise Health experience as a RN and be in good standing.
Certification/Licensure:
- Must possess a current, valid AZ RN license, temporary AZ RN license, or valid compact RN licensure for current state of practice.
- Must be in good standing with the issuing Board of Nursing.
- Requires a BLS card obtained through an American Heart Association (AHA) training center upon hire.
- In addition, certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice:
- Surgical Trauma: Must have ACLS upon hire or transfer.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to work with culturally diverse people is a must.
- Bilingual is preferred.
- Must have excellent communication, time management and customer service skills.
- Requires basic computer word processing skills (e.g. formatting, editing, printing, composing email, internet searches, etc.) to be able to successfully navigate through an electronic medical record using a computer.
- Requires the ability to read, write and speak effectively in English.
