A fast-growing and diversified enterprise, is seeking a high-calibre General Manager (GM) to oversee and coordinate operations across its multi-sector portfolio. The successful candidate will serve as a strategic right-hand leader to the Managing Partner and Managing Director, ensuring operational excellence, strong financial control, and effective execution of business strategy.
With operations spanning two filling stations, a pharmacy, trading contracts, waste collection services, agro projects, and mining-related activities, and an annual turnover exceeding ZMW 100 million, this role requires a seasoned leader capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously while driving profitability and growth.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership & Execution
- Translate Executive Management directives into actionable operational plans and KPIs.
- Develop business plans, feasibility assessments, and growth strategies for new ventures.
- Prepare board-level presentations, executive briefs, and industry analysis reports.
2. Oversight of Multi-Sector Projects & Contracts
- Manage daily operations across fuel retail, pharmacy, trading, waste management, agro-supply, and mining support services.
- Ensure contract compliance, timely execution, and sustained profitability.
- Evaluate project risks, pricing structures, cash flow needs, and operational feasibility.
3. Financial Stewardship & Cash Flow Management
- Read, interpret, and apply financial statements, budgets, and variance reports.
- Work closely with Finance on prioritizing payments, expenditures, and capital allocation.
- Support financing processes through well-prepared business plans and financial models.
4. Leadership, Staff Management & Reporting
- Lead a full team of department heads and ensure strong accountability frameworks.
- Serve as an operational bridge between staff and Executive Management.
- Consolidate all reporting (weekly, monthly, quarterly) into clear and accurate management reports.
5. Compliance, Governance & Risk Control
- Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements: ERB, ZAMRA, ZRA, environmental, mining, and labor standards.
- Strengthen internal controls in stock management, procurement, cash handling, and asset protection.
- Maintain audit readiness and effective documentation across all units.
6. External Relations & Representation
- Represent company in negotiations with suppliers, clients, regulators, and partners.
- Prepare proposals, tender documents, financing applications, and corporate profiles.
- Uphold and project the company’s brand reputation in all engagements.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field.
MBA/Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
- 8–12 years’ leadership experience in multi-sector, industrial, or operational environments.
- Experience in at least two sectors: petroleum retail, pharmaceuticals, trading, waste management, agro projects, or mining services.
- Proven ability to interpret financial statements and manage cash flow.
- Demonstrated experience preparing business plans, feasibility studies, and investor/board presentations.
- Strong project management background with the ability to juggle multiple projects concurrently.
