The Senior Toll Collection Supervisor is part of a four-person supervisory team reporting to the Toll Collection Assistant Manager. This role assists in the 24/7 operation of the toll plaza. The primary responsibility is to ensure all necessary staff is present in their assigned area to process traffic at our toll plaza efficiently.
This position includes duties in both an indoor and outdoor environment. Toll Shift Supervisors will be required to walk, stand for long periods of time, ascend and descend a spiral staircase, and perform duties in all weather conditions. Work hours can vary based on operational need.
Essential Functions (Duties and Responsibilities)
- Provide leadership and support to SCC employees and customers.
- Monitor for safety and security issues and take corrective action as necessary.
- Following departmental policy, schedule the personnel necessary to efficiently process expected traffic in our plazas. Make necessary adjustments in the staff as dictated by events or as directed. Authorize the use of overtime to achieve these requirements and mandate overtime as necessary.
- Oversee traffic management and staffing configuration at the toll plaza to optimize flow of traffic.
- Monitor the performance of toll collectors as well as control room operator.
- Cover Toll Collector/Control Room Operator work breaks and providing emergency coverage for both roles in the event of unexpected traffic backups.
- Prepare weekly lane schedules to meet company demands.
- Cover shifts when absences occur in the Toll Collection and Control Room Departments.
- Review and compare Toll Collector time and attendance hours and schedule every week
- Reconcile money several times during shift, including preparation of Toll Collector deposits and ensuring all monies are accounted for at the end of shift.
- Review all forms and paperwork for full completion and accuracy.
- Keep management abreast of all traffic issues, including but now limited to backups and accidents.
- Compile recap report upon shift completion.
- Supervise in a union environment in accordance with guidelines set forth in the most current collective bargaining agreement.
- Utilize various computer programs and reports to monitor and review employee break times, work status, and availability to work along with traffic reports and overtime records. Accurately update these records as directed.
- Report policy violations and other issues and concerns to the Toll Collection Asst Manager.
- When necessary, counsel employees and make disciplinary recommendations to Toll Collection Assistant Manager and Human Resources.
- Complete checks of the toll plaza at various times of the day and night.
- Render basic first aid and complete injury reports when needed.
- Monitor supply inventories.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent Certifications.
- 1-3 years of supervisory experience, preferably in toll operations, transportation, or related industries.
- Certifications/licenses required by law or regulation
- Proven organization skills
- Possess the knowledge and skill necessary to effectively perform on the job.
- Must possess the ability to manage in a fast-paced, high-stress environment while providing a high level of customer focus
- Additional experience or specialized skills beyond the minimum requirements

- Ability to effectively use SCC applicable systems and tools to carry out responsibilities.
- Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office suite.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
This position operates in an office and field environment. While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to communicate, sit, stand, and use standard office equipment.
- This role may also involve occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, walking, or exposure to outdoor conditions, along with other physical duties involving pushing, pulling, and lifting depending on operational needs.
