Compensation: $20.47 – $24.90/hour, based on experience and internal equity.

What You’ll Do as a Pharmacy Technician III
- Perform advanced technical duties in support of pharmacy operations, including sterile and non-sterile compounding (chemotherapy and hazardous medications).
- Assist pharmacists in preparing, labeling, and dispensing medications accurately and efficiently.
- Maintain and restock automated dispensing systems (e.g., Pyxis/Omnicell) and manage controlled substances per policy.
- Support training and competency assessment for Pharmacy Technician I and II staff.
- Maintain compliance with USP <797>/<800> standards for sterile product preparation and hazardous drug handling.
- Ensure medication storage and inventory control align with departmental and regulatory standards.
- Communicate effectively with pharmacists, nursing staff, and other clinical teams to support seamless medication delivery.
- Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and accountability in all interactions with patients, families, and colleagues.
Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program or associate degree preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of three (3) years of pharmacy technician experience required, with at least one (1) year in a hospital or health-system setting.
- Experience with sterile product preparation and hazardous medication compounding required.
- Previous leadership, training, or precepting experience preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
- Active North Carolina Board of Pharmacy Technician Registration required.
- Current Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) through PTCB or NHA required.
- Completion of ACPE-accredited chemotherapy compounding training (or within 6 months of hire).
- Demonstrated competency in USP <797>/<800> sterile compounding.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Advanced knowledge of medication preparation, compounding, and dispensing processes.
- Strong understanding of regulatory compliance, including USP standards and Joint Commission expectations.
- Effective communication and customer service skills with patients, families, and staff.
- Ability to lead by example, fostering teamwork and professional development among peers.
- Proficiency with electronic health records (Epic) and automated dispensing systems.
- Demonstrated reliability, integrity, and commitment to patient safety.
Physical & Work Environment
- Lift, position, push, pull, and/or transfer up to and greater than 50 lbs.
- Manual dexterity and fine motor skills required for compounding and data entry.
- Prolonged standing, walking, and repetitive motion up to or greater than 8 hours per shift.
- Exposure to hazardous drugs, bloodborne pathogens, and medication odors.
- Must wear appropriate PPE and follow safety protocols in sterile compounding environments.
- Occasional evening, weekend, or holiday coverage may be required.
