About the role
This role will be responsible for developing Aalo's early projects and establishing a long-term project development partnership strategy. This role ensures sites are identified, vetted, and advanced in line with regulatory, financial, and commercial considerations. The Project Development Lead will act as a cross-functional hub, coordinating efforts across commercial, finance, engineering, and regulatory teams, while engaging external developers, customers, and partners to progress siting and permitting activities.
What you'll do
Site Identification & Evaluation
- Lead the process of screening and ranking potential sites using Aalo's siting guidelines and regulatory frameworks.
 - Engage with data center and power project developers, utilities, and customers to obtain and assess site information.
 - Oversee development of key siting tools, permit matrices, and site-specific basis of design documents.
 
Regulatory & Environmental Coordination
- Coordinate with internal regulatory experts and external consultants to align project development with compliance requirements.
 - Track exclusionary and discretionary criteria, and ensure risk factors are identified and mitigated early.
 
Project Development & Cross-functional Leadership
- Balance strategic planning of the long-term project pipeline with tactical execution of site selection, permitting, and customer engagement.
 - Develop and manage project development timelines, milestones, and risk registers.
 - Coordinate across finance, commercial, and regulatory teams to evaluate financeability and commercial viability of sites.
 - Draft scopes of work and oversee third-party contractors and software supporting development efforts.
 - Maintain and improve project development workflows, documentation, and reporting tools.
 - Inform Aalo's strategy to partner with project development firms as commercial deployment scales.
 
Qualifications
Required
- 7+ years of experience in project development, infrastructure siting, energy projects, or related fields.
 - Strong understanding of environmental and regulatory permitting processes (e.g., NRC, state/local permits for power projects).
 - Proven ability to manage multi-stakeholder projects with regulatory, technical, and financial complexity.
 - Excellent communication skills and ability to engage with internal teams, external developers, and customers.
 - Strong organizational skills with experience developing schedules, risk registers, and permitting roadmaps.
 - Willingness and ability to travel for site visits, stakeholder meetings, and regulatory reviews.
 
Preferred
- Background in nuclear, power generation projects, or other large-scale infrastructure development.
 - Familiarity with nuclear site selection guidelines and technical criteria.
 - Experience managing consultants and contractors in project development settings.
 - Proficiency in project management tools and experience implementing new systems.
 
Physical
- This role primarily involves office-based work with travel as needed for site and stakeholder engagements.
