Friendly House, Inc., is a 501(c) 3 non-profit agency located in Phoenix, Arizona whose primary function is to provide a variety of educational and social service programming aimed at addressing the needs of low-income individuals and families, vulnerable populations and diverse communities. Additionally, Friendly House operates a charter school, Academia del Pueblo, with the mission to provide an academic environment which promotes a culture of high expectations to students from diverse cultures. Friendly House was organized in 1920 as the Phoenix Americanization Committee by a group of Phoenix citizens with the assistance of the United States Department of Education. In our 100-year history, the work of Friendly House has resulted in building resilient communities that are helping to spur economic development, stabilize neighborhoods and revitalize our city.
Location: Phoenix, AZ (Onsite; 4 days per week, M-TH 5:30PM to 8PM)

Salary Range: $20-22 hourly (based on experience)
The Adult Education Instructor is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and delivering student-centered lessons for adult learners in any of the Adult Education programs. Components of instruction consist of listening, speaking, reading, math, science, social studies, and writing. Instructors teach based on program's curriculum. Responsibilities include administering standardized assessments, monitoring educational progress, setting and tracking student goals, and maintaining attendance records. Instructors participate in the professional learning community by attending training/conferences, sharing best known methods, and supporting other team members.
Job Qualifications:
- Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree, preferably in Education or a related field and/or an Adult Education Teaching Certificate
- Effectively use electronic communication (e-mail, team collaboration software, etc.)
- IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card, or ability to obtain upon hire
- 1 year of teaching experience and/or training (or an equivalent combination of both)
- Upon hiring attend any or all training seminars or professional development trainings
Preferred Qualifications:
- TESOL/Adult Education degree; and/or TESOL/Adult Education certification from a state licensing agency
- 2-years of experience teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) or GED Prep. to adults in a classroom setting.
- Ability to work with various backgrounds to support diverse students
Responsibilities:
- Ensure daily attendance sheets are submitted for recording.
- Assist with Adult Education Department's oversight of any program operations including intake, orientation, assessment, and data processes.
- Submit monthly outcomes report including student success and challenge data.
- Analyze data to improve student learning and teacher effectiveness.
- Develop lesson plans aligned with program's standards.
- Monitor students' progress on a regular basis.
- Diagnose, assess, and evaluate students' strengths, functional levels, and readiness to pass exams.
- Aid with progress testing and new student orientation.
- Observe work of teaching staff and recommend teaching techniques and the use of different or new technologies to strengthen instructional skills.
- Assist with registration and follow up communication with students.
- Perform other instruction duties as needed.
