SUMMARY: Operates and maintains equipment involved in the solvent extraction of cottonseed oil.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following:

Reads meters and gauges or automatic recording devices hourly to verify operating conditions.
Records data such as temperature of equipment, hours of operation, temperature or pressure, liquid levels, on an hourly basis.
Adjusts manual controls to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges or to shut down equipment.
Visually inspects equipment at hourly internals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment or lubrication.
Maintains equipment by tightening fittings, repacking bearings, replacing packing glands, gaskets, valves, recorders, and gauges and cleaning other components.
Oils and lubricates equipment.
Reports malfunctions or defective equipment to supervisor.
Assists in the repair or replacement of defective equipment.
Records operation and maintenance actions taken during shift in operator’s logbook.
Keep work area clean by sweeping, shoveling, picking up trash, washing, and other means as necessary.
SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE:
Operate centrifuges: Including start up, shut down, and cleaning.
Perform minor repairs and assist on other repairs.
Maintain oil quality within parameters specified by Plainsman Company, LLC. Mill.
Ensure that the proper vacuum and temperatures are maintained on the second stage evaporator, final still, and dryer.
If unable to maintain within operational parameters the operator must inform his supervisor.
Mix caustic solution as specified by supervisor.
Maintain proper miscella and caustic flow through refinery.
Report any leaks of solvent (vapor or liquid) to supervisor.
Assist the solvent plant operator as necessary.
The following duties are for those individuals working in the prep room or expander room:
- Operate boiler
- Maintain soft water to boiler
- Operate flaking rolls
- Operate expanders
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

Assists in other areas as directed by supervisor.
Must comply with all Plainsman Company, LLC. rules, regulations, and safety procedures.
Must comply with all applicable OSHA, EPA. and DEQ regulations.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or one to three months’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Drivers license preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
This position involves working with a flammable solvent, no smoking is allowed in this area.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, respirators, hearing protectors, etc. is required in designated areas
