Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Litigation Attorney to join our in-house legal team. This role is responsible for managing a wide range of litigation matters across the company's portfolio of brands, including employment disputes, commercial claims, personal injury, class actions, and other legal proceedings. The ideal candidate will have strong litigation experience, preferably in the restaurant, hospitality, or retail sector, and a pragmatic, business-oriented approach to resolving disputes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage active litigation matters, including employment, commercial, premises liability, consumer, and intellectual property disputes.
- Work closely with outside counsel to develop litigation strategy, review pleadings, attend mediations, and manage discovery and depositions.
- Serve as a key advisor to internal stakeholders, including HR, operations, risk management, and brand leadership, on litigation risk and dispute resolution.
- Partner with risk on claim assessment and case strategy.
- Support internal investigations related to legal claims or potential litigation exposure.
- Monitor legal trends and developments that may impact litigation or liability risk.
- Ensure litigation strategies align with the company's brand values, risk tolerance, and business objectives.
- Assist with training, policies, and procedures to reduce legal exposure and promote compliance.
- Prepare reports and presentations for senior leadership regarding litigation trends and significant matters.
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 5+ years of litigation experience, with a strong preference for candidates with both law firm and in-house experience.
- Experience with litigation in the restaurant, retail, or hospitality industries is highly desirable.
- Experience with California employment and business litigation is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of civil procedure, employment law, and tort litigation.
- Excellent judgment, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
- Ability to manage multiple complex matters simultaneously with a sense of urgency and precision.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across multiple departments and brands.
- High level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with insurance defense strategies and claims handling.
- Familiarity with LexisNexis or Westlaw platforms.
- Experience managing class actions and high-exposure litigation.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume legal environment.
- Proficiency with litigation management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
Offering between $150,000 - 225,000 / year
