Position Responsibilities:
This role leads quality engineering activities for custom-manufactured and fabricated assemblies, ensuring they meet all design, functionality, and customer specifications. The position requires expertise in GD&T, quality systems, supplier oversight, and inspection processes.
- Provide GD&T guidance for design and production drawings; review and coach for project and shop drawings.
- Conduct QA inspections at vendor and fabrication facilities, including pre-shipment and installation inspections.
- Develop and maintain quality procedures, inspection plans, and acceptance criteria aligned with the Quality Management System.
- Utilize SPC and MSA tools; lead root cause analyses and corrective/preventive actions.
- Oversee test planning for prototypes and assemblies, including setup, data gathering, and reporting.
- Collaborate with suppliers on selection, auditing, inspections, incoming quality, and corrective actions.
- Perform FMEA, risk evaluations, and reliability analysis to inform design improvements.
- Manage PDM/drafting QA processes, ensuring controlled revisions and proper documentation in PLM/PDM systems.
- Participate in design reviews and coordinate with cross-functional teams for installation planning.
- Drive lean, 5S, value engineering, and other continuous improvement efforts.
Position requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program.
- Minimum 5 years of quality assurance/engineering experience in manufacturing or fabrication settings.
- Strong understanding of GD&T and complex assembly drawings.
- Hands-on inspection and measurement expertise including MSA and SPC.
- Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems, drawing controls, and revision processes.
- Ability to read mechanical, structural, and electrical drawings; knowledge of machining and fabrication practices.
- Experience with root cause analysis and CAPA.
- Self-directed with ability to work independently and with project teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to travel domestically (~5%), including overnight site visits for audits and inspections.
Preferred Requirements:
- Master's degree in Quality or Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
- Certifications such as ASQ CQE/CSQE or Six Sigma Green/Black Belt.
- Experience with FMEA, DOE, Minitab, JMP, or similar quality/statistical tools.
- Background in supplier quality, shop/fab environments, and use of inspection fixtures.
- Demonstrated impact on quality improvements such as yield or NCR reduction.
- Experience mentoring junior staff in quality practices and GD&T.
- Proven leadership of improvement or corrective-action initiatives.

The pay range for this role is:100,000 - 125,000 USD per year(Minneapolis, Minnesota)
