Position Summary: Manager, Pharmacy Operations Full-time 40 Hours Per Week Day Shift
Job Summary:
The Pharmacy Operations Manager (POM) is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the hospital pharmacy while ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant dispensing of medications. This role involves managing Pharmacy staff, optimizing workflows, maintaining regulatory compliance, and enhancing patient care through effective medication management. The manager collaborates with healthcare providers, ensures inventory control, and implements quality improvement initiatives to enhance Pharmacy services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The POM reports to the System Director of Pharmacy (SDOP).
- Collaborates with the SDOP, Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator (PCC), Lawrence General Hospital (LGH) Pharmacy leadership, and hospital leadership to optimize medication therapy for all patients.
- Manages the day to day operations of the Pharmacy department and delegates accordingly.
- Ensures compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
- Directs and participates in the development, revision, implementation and communication of policies and procedures.
- Manages the distributive pharmacy operations including unit dose, controlled substances, sterile compounding, non-sterile compounding, hazardous drug management, floor stock, and medication delivery.
- Oversees medication inventory, procurement, compliance, and utilization.
- Oversees recruitment, retention, replacement, evaluation, and disciplinary action for Pharmacy staff.
- Ensures orientation, training, licensing, certifications, and competencies are up to date and on file.
- Ensures that 90 day evaluations and performance previews are completed.
- Ensures that Pharmacy and hospital and system required competencies and continuing education are completed and maintained on file.
- Oversees education, training, and staff development programs for the department.
- Understands that there are dosage variations between newborns, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics and knows where to find appropriate information.
- Serves as a liaison between the Department of Pharmacy and other health care professionals.
- Manages the drug diversion monitoring and reporting program for the hospital.
- Monitors and enhances medication safety measures.
- Manages financial performance of the Pharmacy department with oversight and guidance from the SDOP.
- Member of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
- Member of the Medication Safety Committee.
- Serves as the Designated Pharmacist for MA institutional sterile compounding licensure
- Participates in other committee/task force meetings as assigned.
- Conducts departmental meetings.
- Serves as staff pharmacist when the scheduling need arises.
- Develops and implements operational strategies to improve efficiency and patient safety.
- Performs other duties as required in the best interest of the department and hospital.
EDUCATION AND RELATED EXPERIENCE:
- Required: Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy, Pharmacist licensure or eligibility for licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, minimum of 3 years experience in hospital pharmacy.
- Preferred: Doctor of Pharmacy, Master of Business or Health Administration, Pharmacy residency and/or fellowship, 3 years of progressively responsible experience and at least 1 year of supervisory or managerial experience.
