Surgical Technologist
Assists the surgical team to provide patient care under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse. Demonstrates increasing knowledge of physical and technical requirements of surgical intervention: Highly complex surgical cases/specialty resources. Acts as a resource person regarding instrumentation requirements, availability and set up. Able and willing to troubleshoot. Demonstrates advanced knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Ability to scrub more than three specialties proficiently. Willingness to assist circulator and takes initiative to ensure availability of necessary equipment. Expert in chosen specialty area; performs all specialty procedures independently, is identified as a resource person for more than 1 specialty. Acts as preceptor to actively train new staff and participate in the orientation process, offering performance feedback to management. Responsible for maintaining effective communication skills. Participates in monitoring and maintaining resources in specific department. Understands and contributes to the vision/mission and goals of the department. Works in a secure department with access to areas where medications are stored. Handles and labels medications on the sterile field under the direct supervision of licensed personnel.

Responsibilities:
- Follows the aseptic technique standard within the surgical setting and corrects any break in technique.
- Arranges operating room equipment and supplies following surgeons preference card and procedure requirements.
- Follows policy and procedure standards for sponge, needle and instrument counts.
- Receives, prepares and maintains tissue and lab specimens for pathologys.
- Uses the computer to pull preference cards and mark supplies used in room set up.
- Maintains a working knowledge of all specialty areas, roles and responsibilities of the Surgical Technologist in the surgical setting.

Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:
- Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
- Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
- Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
- Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
- Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Licensure / Certification / Registration:
- Required Credential(s):
- BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
Preferred Credential(s):
- Certified Surgical Technologist credentialed from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date preferred
Education:
- High school diploma/GED required. Completion of an approved Surgical Technologist program prior to hire date or job transfer date preferred.
Work Experience:
- Two (2) years of current surgical technologist experience required.
- If no qualified applicants apply, may consider candidates with less experience who have completed an approved Surgical Technologist program and are otherwise qualified.
- Five (5) years of relevant experience preferred.
