Surgical Specialties Advanced Practitioner
The Surgical NP/PA provides diagnostic, therapeutic, surgical and preventative care, under the supervision of a physician or surgeon. Assist the physician/surgeon in the global management of patient care in all perioperative settings, including (but not limited to) General Surgery, Urology, and Wound Care.
The Surgical PA/NP will be part of a team that covers the following responsibilities on a rotating basis:
- Assist licensed physicians/surgeons as 1st assistant in OR with patient surgery, both open and DaVinci robotic surgical cases. The Surgical PA/NP will handle routine problems related to the surgical patient in the perioperative setting. Will be expected to maintain surgical skills.
- Post-operative care – Is responsible for assisting the surgeon with providing post-operative care including writing orders, communicating the care plan with family, and discharge planning.
- Cover inpatient consults and follow-ups for General Surgery, Urology and Wound Care
- Cover outpatient wound care clinic as primary clinician. Develops and manages an individualized wound care treatment plan for optimal healing outcomes or chronic maintenance
- Day/Night/Weekend call coverage as first call escalating to attending MD on call as required
Reports to: Chief of General Surgery
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate from accredited PA-C or APRN program
Current license or ability to obtain license to practice in the State of Rhode Island
Credentialing by the SCH Medical Staff
Work well independently in addition to being skilled in interdisciplinary collaboration
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with DaVinci surgical robot
Minimum of 3 years experience in one (or all) specialties under scope of position (General Surgery, Urology and Wound Care)
