JOB SUMMARY:
Adheres to all Hospital Policies and Procedures and Philosophy of Care. Provides technical services to the Imaging Department in the performance of CT scan examinations. Provides technical assistance in CT to Radiologists. Participates in daily maintenance functions in the CT Department. Rotates call service support with CT staff. Maintains and documents continuing medical education credits as required by ARRT. Performs clerical tasks (filing, maintaining log books, etc.). Performs other related duties incidental to the work described. Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age specific needs and provide age specific treatment and care. Routinely demonstrates ALARA. Prepares contrast for administration, competent in venipuncture, checks for errors before booting scanners, and selects appropriate default file or scan prescription. Utilizes proper patient identification procedures prior to doing the exam; performs patient care duties as needed while patient is under Imaging Service's care. Ensures that physician orders are obtained and appropriate.
LICENSURE:
Requires current WA State Radiology Technologist (RT) license, American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Preference given to candidates with advanced level certification in CT and minimum of one (1) year experience in CT or comparable training.
LEAD ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Lead CT technologist is to ensure all CT protocols are correct for the intended dose and image quality, establishing these protocols in consultation with the Medical physicist and Radiology section chief. The CT lead is responsible for ensuring the CT protocols are protected in order to protect anyone from changing the protocols or parameters without permission and approval of the Radiology section chief.
2. Implementing the quality control program required in WAC 246-226-080. Review of clinical and phantom images for quality control data, documenting outlying values and trends. The Review of Daily QA/QC for compliance and threshold parameters. Assist in CT staff clinical image review for quality improvement purposes, training, and education.
3. Documentation of all protocols and all subsequent parameter changes per the requirements of WAC 246-226-100.
4. Help develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures that address, Radiation safety, dose reduction for pediatric patients, proper identification of pregnant patients, and the safety guidelines ( GFR ) for contrast use and dosage.
5. Point person for department reviews and inspections of all CT protocols Reviews the QA/QC, dose thresholds, and policies with the Physicist / DOH. Will collaborate with the department manager to ensure all recommendations and or findings noted in DOH/ Physicist reviews are addressed and resolved in a timely manner.
ADDITIONAL LEAD DUTIES:
1). Coordinates and expedites the work of the team and instructs or guides employees on work processes.
2).Orients and trains new employees through demonstration of equipment and work methods.
3). Inspects work for completion and accuracy and reports the results and variances from performance/ behavioral standards to the manager.
4). Oversees daily clinical activities and the coordination of patient/employee ratios with the assistance of the imaging coordinator and/ or Manager.
5). Ensures thoroughness and safety of examinations while setting the priority of clinical needs. Assists with maintaining the examination schedules in the most productive manner with a balance of clinical responsibility shared between staff
6.) Delegates special work assignments when volumes allow.
7). Maintains sections of policies/procedures manuals as well as exam protocol manuals
8). Supports develops and participates in quality control and quality assurance standards and programs
9). Knowledge of and actively participates in the review of DNV and ACR requirements.
10). Provides in-service and orientation to new employees in the section and ancillary personnel as required.
11). Coordinates repair and maintenance of equipment through the Manager and the Imaging Coordinator in a manner not to insult patient care, productivity or after-hours work if possible.
12). Maintains inventory levels in the section sufficient for examination requirements while complying with budget guidelines as outlined by DI Manager.
13). Confers with direct supervisor on a regular basis for discussion of productivity, budget status, and overall direction of responsibility.
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between EvergreenHealth Monroe and United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), Local 3000.
